Misguided anger?
A business owner on the 4000 block of California Ave. S.W. was surprised in the early morning hours of March 12 when he heard a noise at the front door while preparing to open for the day. He saw someone in dark clothes crouched by the door, and when the suspect saw him he popped up and ran to a waiting vehicle that sped away. The business owner called 911 and “was very abusive” to operators, according to the police report, “and would not answer basic questions that are routinely asked for officer safety.” Once officers arrived they were met with yet more “abuse and hostile” behavior from the distraught man. Investigating the source of the noise, police found a small section of molding around the door had been jarred loose, but was easily popped back into place by hand.
Pistol whipped for $21
A man was leaving his office on the 4700 block of 40th Ave. S.W. around 10 p.m. on March 11 when an unknown male walked up behind him and said, “Gimme your money.” The victim turned and the suspect hit him in the forehead with a black pistol. The victim attempted to give the robber his entire wallet, but the suspect insisted on only wanting the cash inside. $21 was forcefully exchanged and the suspect ran off towards Fauntleroy Way S.W. The suspect was described as a white male, early 20s, 5-11, 170 lbs. with a foreign accent. The suspect had emerged from a walkway along the block that is known by locals as an area where “transients will stand or sit … and drink alcohol,” according to the report.
Strange trade
On March 11 a South Park resident realized someone had broken the lock to her detached garage. Inside, she discovered many things had been shuffled around, but nothing seemed to be missing. Instead, she found a garbage can sitting in the middle of her back yard full of wire, copper, a jacket, a bag of clothing and a glass mason jar filled with water (hopefully). The items were checked for latent fingerprints but none were found, so the woman said she planned to donate the discarded goods to Goodwill.
