Keep those windows closed
In the precautionary tales file from a May 8 daytime burglary on the 4000 block of 45th Ave. S.W., the victim decided to leave a few windows slightly opened to keep the house cool during the day while temperatures rose into the 80s. When she returned, she found someone noticed her kitchen window was slightly ajar and used that opportunity to creep in and steal high quality camera equipment along with vintage jewelry.
New mother struck by rock
On May 4 along the 2500 block of S.W. Barton St., a new mother was spending time with her mom and son and loading items into the car when she felt a sharp pain as something struck her back. She whirled around to see four young teenagers ducking behind a nearby vehicle and realized she had been struck by a rock. She watched the kids weave through several cars before getting into a silver sedan with two young adults driving. The victim approached the adults to explain what she believed the young men had done, to which they acted dismissive and threatened to sue as they drove away.
Good Samaritan turns in drugs
In early May a man left his Beach Dr. S.W. home for the day. At 10:40 a.m. he received a call from his doctor’s office stating a Good Samaritan had just turned in his medication after finding it on a street corner at 59th Ave. S.W. and S.W. Admiral Way. The victim returned home to find someone had broken into his apartment and stolen the medication along with an iPad.
Caught in the act
On May 4 a man returned home to his 45th Ave. S.W. home just before 8 p.m. and came face to face with another male walking out of his front door with arms full of the victim’s belongings. He yelled at the burglar, who took off running. Entering his home, he yelled again and saw another male bolt out a side door. The victim gave chase, and watched the men jump into a burgundy minivan and take off. The burglars were able to take off with several items (including a platinum and diamond ring valued at $14000), but left many others piled up in the living room.
