$50 debt leads to groin kick
The victim of an assault who fended off a more serious knife attack called police close to midnight on the 8700 block of 14th Ave. S.W. on July 19 to report the incident. Retelling his story, the male said he was in the neighborhood looking for a friend when a man he had purchased a car from a few months back approached him and said he still owes $50. Moments later, he said, the suspect followed his request up by punching the victim in the mouth. The victim then saw a knife – two-blades coming from either end with a wooden handle connecting them – and dodged a lunging attack from the aggressor. The victim said he was able to grab hold of the suspect’s arms and push them to the ground, opening up the opportunity to kick him square in the groin. The suspect reeled back and dropped the knife, so the victim kicked the knife away. Unarmed and likely hurting, the aggressor took off in a red convertible Chevy Cavalier. When police asked for more information on the suspect, the victim said he had a distinctive neck tattoo of “Jesus Christ using drugs.” He also still had the suspect’s name and contact information from registration documents for the vehicle. Police took that information and advised the victim to get a protection order against the suspect.
Convoluted carjacking
It was between 1:30 and 2 a.m. on July 21 when a man decided to give an unknown male a ride to the intersection of 15th Ave. S.W. and S.W. Barton from a nearby location, “just to be nice.” When he dropped his passenger off, he said another male emerged from nowhere and pointed a .45 caliber handgun at him, demanding his car. The victim got out and the suspect took off northbound on 16th Ave. S.W. His car gone and sans phone, the victim wandered the area until another man approached to ask him what was wrong. The new stranger said he might know who took the victim’s car and he could help him get it back for the right price. The victim agreed and jumped into the mysterious man’s semi-truck, where he was whisked away to the intersection of 1st and Myers Way. The victim was let out, the driver took off, and the man was left, once again, without a cell phone or car. He knocked on the door of a nearby home and was allowed to use their phone to call his wife. She came to pick him up and they drove around a bit looking for his car before heading to the Southwest Precinct to report the crime. Talking with police, the wife said she “somehow” had the initial carjacking suspect’s phone number in her phone. She called the number and the man said he knew where the car was, but they would have to pay to get it back. He then hung up. Around 6:30 that morning, the King County Sheriff’s Office contacted Seattle Police to let them know they had picked up a semi-truck driver and he had a backpack full of the victim’s belongings. The semi-truck driver (same guy from earlier) was arrested for connection with the carjacking and questioned, seeing as how he had the backpack from the vehicle that was stolen from the victim. His car was recovered a few hours later on the 3800 block of W. Marginal Pl. S.W.
