Ballard High School had a disappointing season opener against crosstown rival, Bishop Blanchet, last week. The Blanchet Braves steamrolled the Beavers in a 43-0 loss. While the defense tried their best to hold off the Braves, letting through a few of big plays but otherwise holding their own, the offense couldn’t muster enough energy to break through for a touchdown. Punts and penalties were all too common in the Beavers’ first game, which took place at the highly energetic Blanchet homebase.
Luckily for the Beavers, this game didn’t count in the league standings, instead just offering a harsh lesson on how much they need to improve. The Beavers will be taking on the O’Dea High School Fighting Irish in a nonleague game today, Friday, Sept. 13, 7:45 p.m. at Memorial Stadium (401 5th Ave N). While it’s sure to be a challenging game, what else can we say but: “Go Beavers!”
