Kamuron D. Gurol, Director of Community Development for the City of Sammamish, has been selected as Burien’s next city manager. The City Council approved his contract at a special meeting Monday.

Gurol, 51, has been with Sammamish since 2005.
Sammamish is a city of about 50,000 population east of Bellevue. Prior to Sammamish, Gurol was Corridor Planning Manager with the Washington State Department of Transportation from 2004 – 2005. He was Director of Community Development for Kitsap County from 2003-2004, and Planning Division Manager for Snohomish County from 1999-2003. He also worked nine years as a senior policy analyst/senior planner for King County, from 1989 - 1998.

"I am truly excited to have the opportunity to serve as your next city manager," Gural said in a prepared statement read at the meeting. "In the coming years, we will have many problems to solve, relationships to strengthen, and infrastructure to build and maintain...I feel confident and energized to help Burien achieve the community's goals."

Burien Mayor Lucy Krakowiak said after the meeting she believes Gurol has the right skills set and values to help move Burien forward. "He has a broad foundation in King County and surrounding counties that will help Burien be a regional player," she said.

Gurol has a masters degree in Public Administration from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and a bachelors of science degree in Geological Services from the University of Washington.

The Burien city manager position became vacant last July when former manager Mike Martin resigned to take the city administrator's job in Lynden, Whatcom County. City Attorney Craig Knutson has been serving as interim city manager.
