Candidates for Hi-Yu royalty are from left Nina Collucio, Lorilei McFadden and Hang Thao. They will each write an essay and do a personal interview to determine a point value and their positions in the Hi-Yu court. The winners will be announced at the Hi-Yu tea on May 18 at the Hall at Fauntleroy.
The candidates for West Seattle Hi-Yu royalty performed at the annual West Seattle Hi-Yu breakfast at the Alki Masonic Hall on May 3. They performed for judges beginning the process of who will be selected to represent Hi-Yu in Seafair and other celebrations throughout the year.
Also shown was the new design for the float for the West Seattle Grand Parade, which this year will feature an Alice in Wonderland theme.
The candidates are Nina Coluccio, sponsored by the West Seattle Rotary Club (who performed an athletic dance as her talent), Lorilei McFadden who sang, and Hang Thao who did a break dance routine.
Denise Davis said depending on the points earned in process, "We will have a queen, a prince and a princess or a King and two princesses." That process involves the talent competition, a written essay and a personal interview. She went on to explain that should Hang win, Seafair rules prevent a male from becoming Seafair queen so the highest point earning girl would go forward.
The winners will be announced at the annual Hi-Yu Tea and auction on May 18 at the Hall at Fauntleroy.
