Evergreen High School graduate Senio Kelemete is now the second string left and right offensive guard for the New Orleans Saints of the National Football League.
Kelemente of the class of 2007 was originally drafted out of the University of Washington by the Arizona Cardinals in 2012. He played for the Cardinals that year and is now in his second season with the Saints.
The 24-year-old who wears the number 65 stands at 6 feet, 3 inches and weighs in at 300 pounds.
Ugwoaba among honorees
Three repeaters are among five Western Washington University men's soccer players named 2014 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Academic All-Stars in an announcement Wednesday, Nov. 5, by the conference office.
The threesome honored for the second time includes midfielder Caden Sowers (Jr., Ferndale), midfielder Matt Temple (Jr., Beaverton, OR) and midfielder Uche Ugwoaba (Jr., Burien/Highline).
Rounding out the Viking honorees are midfielder Dan Anderson (Jr., Sandpoint, ID) and defender Troy McCarty (So., Snohomish).
Sowers is an electronics engineering technology major with a 3.51 grade point average (4.0 scale). Temple, who has two goals and one assist, is a manufacturing engineering technology major with a 3.84 GPA and Ugwoaba is a computer science major with a 3.39 GPA.
Anderson is a recreation major with a 3.44 GPA and McCarty is an engineering and design major with a 3.51 GPA. Anderson has two goals and two assists.
WWU, which has won seven of its last nine games, is 9-7-1 overall and 7-5-1 in GNAC play. The Vikings end their season Saturday, Nov. 8 (7:30 p.m.) at Simon Fraser.
To be eligible for the GNAC academic team, student-athletes must have a minimum grade point average of 3.20 and be in at least the second year of competition at their university.
Saling lands at Pacific
Wyatt Saling (Fr., White Center, Wash.) brings state tournament credentials to the Pacific University women's wrestling team in Oregon. She was a regionals placer in Washington and was an alternate for the state tournament while with the Evergreen High School team.
"Wyatt works hard. She has a good mentor from her home state in Bailey (Martinez of Oak Harbor)," coach Severin Walsh said. "She is a good kid who is looking to get better everyday."
