Thief takes purse and cash from store employee room
Police are looking for a purse thief after he stole items from the private employee area of a store located on the 5400 block of Ballard Avenue NW on July 17. Witnesses told police that they saw a light-skinned black male, possible in his mid 20s, enter the private employee area of the store and rifle through employees’ things. One employee told police that she confronted the man while he was in the room. He dropped some of the items he was holding and made for the door. The employee tried to stop him and called for help. She grabbed his shirt as he pushed through the doorway. His shirt tore in the process. The thief made off with cash and at least one purse containing over $125, a blank check and credit cards. There was no security footage of the incident, and police were unable to recover any fingerprints.
Flower-power cyclist uses bike for weapon in assault
Police are looking for a cyclist who assaulted a motorist with his bicycle at the 11th Avenue NW and NW 45th Street intersection on July 22. Police were dispatched to the victim’s office after they received the report of the assault. The victim told police that he was in his car and had stopped at a red light at the intersection when a man on a bicycle approached him. The suspect road up along the left side of the victim’s car and started yelling at him. The victim did not know what the man was upset about and just smiled and waved. The victim then lifted his bike over his head and slammed it against the victim’s driver side door. The impact caused the mirror to crack and the victim sustained a laceration to his forearm. The victim drove to his office to call police. The suspect followed him to his office and yelled at him some more. Co-workers tried to coax the man into identifying himself. They said he seemed extremely “agitated.” Once the suspect knew they were calling police he fled. Witnesses report the man being of medium build, mid-30s with dirty blonde hair. He was wearing a multi-colored headband, green shirt, blue shorts and carrying a blue backpack with flowers.
Woman beats man with metal rod near the canal
Police are looking for a woman who beat a man with a metal rod near the canal at NW 39th Street and Leary Way NW on July 18. Police arrived at the scene and the victim told them that a woman beat him repeatedly with some kind of long metal rod then fled. The victim thought that both his arms were broken. Police observed swelling of the man’s arms but no blood. He was transported to Swedish Hospital in Ballard. The victim knew the name of his attacker but did not reveal to police what his relationship was with her. A witness at the scene told police he heard arguing before the attack but did not actually see the woman strike. Police searched the area but were unable to locate the woman.
