Lottery Drawing for Highline Capital Facilities Advisory Committee
Tue, 10/06/2015
Burien, WA – Highline Public Schools will convene a Capital Facilities Advisory Committee to develop recommendations for a capital facilities plan, with the goal of ensuring adequate, equitable, and sustainable school buildings that provide students with a high-quality learning environment.
Twenty-five of the 40 committee members will be selected by lottery from among local residents who wish to participate on the committee. The remaining 15 members will represent stakeholder groups such as employee associations and PTA. Deadline to apply for the lottery is midnight October 6.
“Public schools belong to the entire community,” said Superintendent Susan Enfield. “It is essential that community members participate in developing the District’s long-term capital facilities plan to ensure that it reflects the values and priorities of the community.”

Background:
The Capital Facilities Advisory Committee will meet monthly from October 2015 through June 2016. Committee meetings will be open to the public, and the committee will provide opportunities for public input. In June 2016, the committee will make recommendations to the School Board on a long-term capital facilities plan, including the scope and dollar amount for a future capital bond measure.
Any Highline resident is eligible to enter the selection process for the committee. Community members may self-nominate by sending their name, address, email, and phone number to capitalplan@highlineschools.org. Over 150 participants in the District’s survey in April 2015 expressed interest in serving on the committee. They will be contacted and offered an opportunity to register for the lottery.
The lottery drawing will be held on October 7 at 5:30 p.m. at the district central office prior to the School Board meeting. The lottery will be drawn by School Board President Bernie Dorsey. Individuals do not need to be present for the lottery. Those whose names are drawn in the lottery will be informed of their selection by Friday, October 9.
The first meeting of the committee will be October 23 at 6:00 p.m.
