Swimmers place high in WCD meets

Area athletes came through with high finishes in West Central District meets on Saturday, even though there were no winners.
Emily Zacharias of Highline placed the highest in the Class 2A meet, taking second in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2 minutes, 17.50 seconds.
Zacharias was also third in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:10.68 effort, helping the Pirates take seventh as a team with 94 points.
Reva Zacharias came in third in the 100 butterfly in 1:01.26 and also finished fourth for the Pirates in the 100 backstroke in 1:03.49.
Highline was also fourth in both the 200 medley relay (1:59.13) and 200 free relay (1:47.39).
Kennedy Catholic captured sixth place as a team in the 3A meet with 108 points.
The Lancers had Angela Gagliardo take second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:07.43 with Angelica Gill coming in third in the 100 backstroke in 1:03.44.
Madeline Kemp of JFK came in third in the diving competition with 294.05 points, just ahead of teammate Maddie Terry with 288.05. Christine Guadagaino nabbed ninth with a 208.15 score.
Kennedy also took third in the 200 medley relay in 1:57.51 and seventh in the 400 free relay in 3:55..59.
Mount Rainier scored an even 100 points in the 4A meet to come in 10th.
Rachel Beal led the way for the Rams, finishing fourth in the 200 IM in 2:16.10 and eighth in the 100 back in 1:03.70.
Hannah Goebel was ninth in diving with 274.95 points.
Mountt Rainier placed eighth in the 200 free relay in 1:51.84.
Next up is the state swimming and diving meet, which runs Friday and Saturday at the King County Aquatc Center in Federal Way for all classifications.
The 2A preliminaries begin at 9:45 a.m. Friday with the 3A at 2 p.m. and the 4A at 6:30 p.m.
Finals open with the 2A at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, followed by the 3A at 2:15 p.m. and the 4A at 7 p.m.
