Burglar helps him/herself to the fridge
On Sept. 14 police responded to a forced-entry burglary call on the 10100 block of Marine View Dr. S.W. Sometime between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. an unknown burglar shattered the patio door and ransacked the entire house, including the cheese and meat drawer of the fridge. Investigators noticed a block of cheese with bite marks taken out of it and brought it to the precinct as evidence. Fingerprints were “mottled,” indicating the suspect was wearing gloves, but a saliva swab was taken with a cotton applicator for DNA analysis. If the perp is in the system and the lab results come back conclusive, the snack could be their downfall.
“If you call the police, I’ll kill you”
A man living in an apartment complex on the 1200 block of S. Cloverdale St has a neighbor “with a drinking problem (who) sometimes acts crazy.” On Sept. 19 just before midnight, the man’s friend yelled from below to throw him a cigarette. The man did and the neighbor, who was reportedly intoxicated, became angry with the late night conversation. The neighbor walked to the victim’s door and started kicking it. The victim said he would call the police if he didn’t stop, to which the irate neighbor replied, “If you call the police, I’ll kill you.” The victim stepped into the hallway and they began to argue. After the suspect punched him in the head, the victim picked up a chair to defend himself. The chair broke apart in the ensuing struggle. The suspect grabbed a chair leg and beat the victim with it. The suspect left after the beating, only to come back a few minutes later to say, “You call the police, I’ll kill you.” The victim did call the police and the suspect had fled the scene by the time they arrived. They told the man to call 911 again if the neighbor came to his apartment or mutual workplace.
Stealing guns from a widow
A recently widowed woman living on 47th Ave S.W. called police mid-September to report someone had broken into her house and stolen an unknown number of rifles in August, and then broke in again to complete the job. The original theft occurred in late August, but the victim did not call police at that time because she thought someone she knew may have taken them. On Sept. 14th her home was broken into again, but the victim had moved the remaining guns to a new location. Nothing else was stolen. There were no signs of forced entry and the front door deadbolt was unlocked when she came home.
