It was a great game except for the mistakes.

The Chief Sealth Seahawks took on the Bishop Blanchet Braves at Seattle Memorial Stadium in the Metro League playoff game Saturday night. It was a game the Seahawks wanted badly after the Braves handed them a 70-0 clubbing in their 4th game of the season, and Chief Sealth came into the game with lots of intensity and a healthy roster.

Sealth walked the walk in the first quarter. They attacked the Brave offense, and the Seahawks' Justin Alvarez intercepted a Blanchet pass on the first series. The Seahawks were unable to convert, and on their next series, Blanchet pulled a drive together and Oshea Trujillo found his familiar spot in the end-zone, putting the Braves on the board first making it 7-0.

The Seahawks, unlike the last time these two teams met, wasted no time in returning the favor. Starting on their own 42, the Seahawks put together a beautiful drive - Camacho for 11 yards, a grab swing pass to #2 Brady Crane took them to the 17 yard line, another run to the 9, then Camacho bookended the drive with a TD run that had him stretching out over the goal line as the Bishop Blanchet defense tried to hold him back. All of a sudden, it was 7-7 and there was real energy in the crowd.

And then the unraveling began….

In a series of self destructing mistakes and setbacks, Sealth lost 3 critical fumbles in the 2nd quarter - on a punt return, on a punt, and from scrimmage in the end-zone - and Blanchet converted on each of them racking up 19 points. The Braves added one more 'legitimate' drive to the tally with another TD run by Trujillo. What could have been a 14-7 game was instead 33-7 at the half. Adding insult to injury, the Seahawks lost their Quarterback Weston Reed to a sprained knee, as well as receiver Alloney Burris.

To their credit, the Seahawks came out in the 2nd half with some energy and, with Camacho at QB, continued to generate offense on the ground and held Blanchet to a single field goal, making the final score 36-7.

It's been an eventful year for the Seahawks. The young team fought their way to a 4-4 record and put some great wins under their belt including victories over West Seattle and Rainier Beach. Now the work begins for Coach Carr and his staff to continue the journey into a winning team as the 2013 season goes into the history books.
