Ballard bested West Seattle, 3-1, Friday night to capture the Metro League softball tournament championship.
The win at the Southwest Athletic Complex advanced the Beavers into next week's Class 3A Sea-King District 2 tournament as the Metro League's No. 1 seed while the Wildcats go on as the No. 2 seed.
West Seattle had beaten Ballard and Bainbridge in a tiebreaker the previous week for the regular season division crown.
Ballard awaits Monday's winner between Roosevelt and Seattle Prep for its opener at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Southeast Athletic Complex near Rainier Beach High School.
West Seattle plays at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the SWAC near Chief Sealth High School against the winner of Monday's battle between Holy Names and the Kingco No. 3 team.
Both Ballard and West Seattle are in the double-elimination portion of the tournament that skips to Thursday and Friday after their openers.
Chief Sealth, meanwhile, also took a loss Friday, being outslugged by Roosevelt, 14-11, in the game for seventh and eighth place in the Metro League tournament.
That action took place at the SEAC.
The Seahawks open the Sea-King District 2 tournament with a loser-out game at 5 p.m. Monday at the SEAC against the Kingco No. 2 entry.
