Security guards stop shoplifters

A store located on the 2800 block of S.W. Barton Street reported two male shoplifters at 6:40 p.m. on Mon., Feb. 20. Security guards noticed the men inside the store placing alcohol in their backpacks. One of them tried to walk out with a bottle of booze in his hand. Security guards stopped them. The men were uncooperative and claimed they did not steal anything. Officers watched security camera footage and estimated the value of shoplifted goods at $113. Officers placed them in custody.

Assault after house party

When police arrived on the 7100 block of Shinkle Place S.W. in response to a report of an assault around 1 a.m. on Sun., Feb. 19, they found the victim walking towards them and spitting blood out of his mouth. The man had a lacerated lip and broken teeth. He told officers that it felt like his jaw was broken. He explained that he had been walking his dog with his wife, when the couple saw a man urinating in a bush, surrounded by a group of other men. The victim confronted them and the suspect punched him in the face. The couple believes that the group had been at a residence nearby, where a loud party had been raging through the night. They said the suspect was about 6 ft. tall and 240 lbs. with short dark hair. The officers went to the party, and the owner of the home said that he had asked multiple people to leave. He added that he did not know the group. A neighbor said that he saw multiple males leaving around the time of the altercation, dividing up to take two vehicles, including a Ford Expedition. The victim was treated for his injuries by the Seattle Fire Department, before being transported to the hospital. Officers checked the area for the suspects but were unable to find them.

Residential burglary on 44th Avenue S.W.

Police were dispatched to the 5200 block of 44th Avenue S.W. around 6 p.m. on Fri., Feb. 17. The caller said he heard loud knocking noises at night for a number of weeks and whenever he told others about the noises, they thought he was crazy. The caller lives at the residence with his parents, but they were out of town in California to attend a funeral. He explained that earlier in the week he found window screens removed and placed in the backyard. He did not file a report at that time. Then, around 3 a.m. on Friday, he heard a loud bang but went back to sleep. Later, he found a glass balcony door was kicked in. He was not sure which items were stolen. He thought a laptop was missing. Officers are waiting for the parents to return home to file a full report.

Robbery on 16th Avenue S.W.

Police arrived on the 9400 block of 16th Avenue S.W. around 7 p.m. on Sun., Feb. 12 to find the victim visibly shaken. She explained that she had been walking to her parked car in an alleyway, when a man approached her with a large knife. He held the weapon to her chest and told her to give him all his money. She handed him her wallet, which contained several bank cards and about $83. The suspect ran off to the south. The man was in his late 20s, about 5’10” tall, wearing a black hoodie and gray pants. The woman was not injured. A man living nearby witnessed the attack. He heard noise in the alley, looked out his window and yelled at the suspect to stop. Officers from both the Seattle Police Department and the King County Sherriff’s Office searched the area for the suspect but were unable to find him.
