'West Seattle 101' is a guidebook for friends, visitors

It was with a feeling of pride and accomplishment that I paged through Lori Hinton's new guide book, "West Seattle 101."

I feel gratified that what we started three years ago is actually a great guide book and available to the public.

In 2002, I was the brand new editor of the West Seattle Herald when in walked Lori with a proposal that has now become the very first neighborhood guide book in Seattle.

Pantless in Seattle

A 20-year-old Shoreline resident was taken to Harborview for treatment after he spent part of the Wednesday morning commute practicing karate moves and dancing (pantless) in the lanes of the Spokane Street Bridge.

Shy at the first day of school, a 4-year-old would not tell classmates his name. His father, a 35-year-old local resident, became angry and took the child home.

Two dead in Tukwila shooting

Two men were killed by an unidentified gunman last week while sitting in their car in the Southcenter Mall parking lot.

On Sept. 12, a woman in the parking lot heard gunshots around 4:35 p.m. and turned to see a man who appeared to be in his 40s standing next to a car.

She later told Tukwila police that the two men in the car were slumped over as the suspect walked calmly back to his car and drove away.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found 17-year-old Ivan Payan Rojas dead and 27-year-old Alfonso R.
