Burien lawmakers oppose repeal of gas tax

The Burien City Council has declared its opposition to Initiative 912, which would repeal Washington's 9.5 gasoline tax increase that the Legislature imposed earlier this year.

Lawmakers voted 5-1 on Oct. 8 to oppose the statewide initiative, which will appear on the Nov. 8 general election ballot.

Councilman Gordon Shaw cast the lone dissenting vote.

Meeting on Town Square scheduled for October 19

The city of Burien will hold a public meeting Wednesday, Oct. 19, to continue a community dialogue on the Town Square development.

The 6:30 p.m. meeting at City Hall is a follow-up to the well-attended session on Sept. 15, during which Town Square developer Urban Partners presented details on housing, retail and other components of Town Square.

Issues raised and questions asked at that meeting will be discussed on Oct.

Local tennis professional Steve Walters again offers area tennis lessons at outdoor locations this summer. Walters, certifed Pro 1 by the United States Professional Tennis Association since 1986, has coached at some of the world's top tennis resorts and academies in Florida, Caifornia, Texas and Canada. Also he traveled on the men's professional tour, including the 1988 U.S. Open, as a traveling coach for world-ranked pros and nationally-ranked juniors.

Kennedy scored 36 points in the first quarter on its way to a decisive victory Saturday, Oct. 1.

Bobby Gentry started off with a 28-yard interception return for a touchdown and Trevor Steen kicked the extra point on his way to a total of seven.

On Sept. 25, according to charging papers filed in King County Superior Court, Raymond Moultrie - a door-to-door magazine salesman - knocked on a door in the Redondo area.

When the woman who lived there answered the door, Moultrie allegedly entered the residence and raped her.

Accident injures two

A 20-year-old pregnant woman suffered life-threatening injuries in a two-car collision at S.W. 116th St. and 16th Ave. S.W. on Oct. 5 around 8:20 a.m.

According to King County Sheriff's deputies and witnesses, a Ford Explorer traveling east on 116th St. ran a red light.

A car driven by a 17-year-old female who attends Evergreen High School was heading south on 16th Ave.
