Clearing drains prevent floods

Highline-area residents can help stop flooding in neighborhoods this fall by clearing leaves and litter from storm drains and ditches around their homes.

The Burien Public Works Department recently stated that its crews are doing "their best to keep the more than 6,000 drains clean" in the city.

But a department spokesman encouraged residents to do "a little fall cleaning of your own" by clearing away the leaves with a rake, push broom or shovel.

Burien residents who need help with a storm-drain flooding problem during normal work hours can call the Public Work

'Thank you' for Earline

A big rave to Earline Byers for her recent column informing us of Milluzzo's By The Water's grand opening celebration at the Marina in Des Moines. If it had not been for her column, we would have missed out on a terrific spaghetti dinner, wine tasting and our own Joey Jewell in his great impersonations of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin.

Thanks again, Earline, for keeping us informed in Des Moines.

Donations asked for Burien man awaiting transplant

On August 26, 2005, Robert (Bob) Pukitis of Burien suffered a near fatal heart attack while vacationing near Spokane with his wife, Nan-C-Lee.

Initially she was informed that he most likely would not survive. However, doctors were able to get him stable enough to perform a surgical procedure in which they implanted a mechanical heart in his abdomen.

Unfortunately this is only a temporary solution. Bob is currently on the list to receive a heart transplant.

Needless to say, the medical bills are accumulating daily, as are their every day bills.

Mr.

Delphine GAILLARD

In memory of Delphine Gaillard, our loving daughter, gone 10 years ago at the age of 17 - June 3, 1978 to Nov. 11, 1995.

Fly my dove to tell him "I love you,"

But do not come back to hurt me.

I wrote your name on a tree,

A man cut it down.

I wrote your name in the sand,

The sea washed it away.

I wrote your name in my heart.

There is will be forever.

Poem written by Delphine, 1995, translated from French to English.
