Police Beat

1. A neighbor called to report a domestic dispute in progress at 29317 18th Avenue South #A. Upon arrival, officers heard voices inside. Finally, the woman there opened the door a few inches after the police notified the residents of their presence. Then the woman attempted to slam the door in the face of the officers. The police forced their way in, and the woman continued to be belligerent and aggressive. She and her boyfriend denied having any dispute or altercation.

Chorale director Don Barrows celebrates his "second retirement"

Don Barrows has become a Snowbird. When he and his wife Lucille rented a house in Surprise, Arizona, last January and February, and he was able to play golf in shorts, the Barrows decided that they would do it every year. But they would definitely not be making the yearly trek to Arizona in an RV.

"We will be cruising down the highway in our Acura," laughed Barrows.

Vote for construction bond

To the Editor:

In February 2006, Federal Way voters will be asked to vote for the School Construction Bond measure. This measure will provide needed funding for essential facilities improvements, support services, and needed new schools.

Several months ago, I was asked to serve as co-chair of this upcoming campaign. Even though I felt a bit over-committed to community activities in Federal Way and Tacoma, I wanted to do what I could to help. The education of our youth is important.

You may ask why I should be concerned.

Snow Joke - Winter is Here

Though it has only been a few weeks since I wrote about the region's unseasonable warmth, in spite of global warming, the cold has finally arrived. Walking the dogs yesterday, we had to bundle up. I had on my evergreen-colored fleece jacket, Mrs. Anthony was wearing her bright red one.

On my head, my straw fedora with the feather, and Mrs. A with the dazzling smile, we looked perhaps like a walking Christmas tree, her being the ornament on my side.
