Looking back on 2005 in words and photographs

While we wrap up another memorable year in Federal Way, the staff of the Federal Way News decided to look back on a prosperous year in the city's history and sift through the archives of our stories from 2005. From the city's decision to buy 80-year-old Camp Kilworth, the 15th anniversary of incorporation, to the bold, new steps in the direction of economic development and downtown revitalization, this year has demonstrated the growth and maturation of a young and vibrant community.

A very good paper

To the editor:

I just wanted to give some feedback on "The Federal Way News." Some while ago, someone started throwing your paper in my driveway. I always grumbled as I picked it up and threw it away, thinking it some sort of junk mail. But one day, I quickly glanced at it. I saw it had a crossword puzzle, which I like, so I did the puzzle. After a time, I looked forward to getting the paper so that I could do the puzzle. It wasn't long until, I started looking at the rest of the paper. Now, it has grown on me.

A Russian Christmas

Being that I myself have the genetic pedigree equivalence of a pound mutt, I can call myself part Scot, part Irishman, a wee bit of Frenchman, an Aleut Indian and even a smidgeon of Russki, not necessarily in that order. All of these pan-human traits come out in my behavior. In the aforementioned order, I'm cheap, but I'm gregarious, I appreciate good food and art, and I know how to build a fire in the snow, and lastly, I get a little depressed around the holidays and have cravings for vodka-flavored pasta sauce.
