Las Vegas arrests nets

man wanted for killing

Markus D. Carpenter, 31, was arrested Feb. 1 in Las Vegas, Nev., on a charge of murder in connection with the 2004 shooting death of Brian Porter in Boulevard Park.

According to King County Sheriff’s Sgt. John Urquhart, Porter was at a night club in the 12400 block of Des Moines Memorial Drive on July 17 when Carpenter and Aaron Jack got into a fight with others in the club around 4 p.m.

Carpenter and Jack both pulled out handguns and began shooting. Porter was shot and died at the scene.

Artist's work dances with moon

In many religions, life and death are considered a circle -- we are born, we die and we are reborn. After her father's death, Seahurst artist Marianne Perkins found herself instinctively drawn to the idea of working with circles.

"I wanted to do a piece about dancing, and then decided to use circles because they are so never-ending," Perkins said.

The resulting series of abstract paintings, "Dancing With The Moon," is on display at the Seahurst Art Gallery through Feb.

Reducing government

Now that our Legislature has taken care of one of their top priorities in passing the Gay Civil Rights law that is already covered by existing law, what's next on the Priority List?

Let’s review that Priority List:

1. Helping Portland land a Major League sports franchise.

2. Saving the lives of those irresponsible drivers by making it illegal to use a hand-held cell phone.

3. Enacting enabling legislation to "blow" the reserve gained from over-taxation of the citizenry.

4.
