Track seeks to keep pace

In track and field, the Ballard Beavers are working towards another appearance at the state meet again despite the loss of some key athletes to graduation.

Last year's team finished second to Gig Harbor by just four points at state. The year before, Ballard was third, establishing a winning tradition that the team hopes to continue. Ballard will also be defending their SeaKing District title.

"We have good kids who want to run and do well.

Boys soccer gears for 4A challenge

It will be another challenging year for the Ballard Beavers boys soccer team as it enters its fourth year in KingCo 4A.

"KingCo is always tough, if not the toughest in the state, it's definitely in the top two or three," said Hunter.

During pre-season workouts at the Queen Anne Bowl in recent weeks, Hunter said there would be only three to four seniors on the team. "The team is young, we have only a handful of seniors.

On June 7, 2005, Charlie H. Adamson Jr. died of cancer despite all the efforts, and medical expertise available. Virginia Mason Clinic provided loving care for him and his wife, Jane. Both Korea veterans, they married in Japan and had nearly 50 years together.

After Charlie died, staff at Virginia Mason continued to give moral support (with a hug now and then) to Jane. As both were members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars,. Jane noticed there was no flag at VM South. She asked Faye Truskowski and John Schafter, staffer there why not.

Vicious attack after hit-and-run leaves man injured

After the events of March 7th, Sean Kiteley, 28, of Federal Way, will probably think twice before he attempts to catch a criminal again, at least until he succeeds in his dream of become a King County Sheriff Deputy.

At around 9 A.M. that day, a silver Volkswagen Corrado Coupe rear-ended Kiteley's black Acura in the 35600 block of Pacific Highway South. Kiteley called 9-1-1 to report that the driver had smashed into his car and took off. Kiteley himself then followed the driver that hit him to the Heights Apartments at 125 SW Campus Drive.

Kalaloch - time traveling the coast

Mrs. Anthony and I choose the beach for nearly all our vacations, opting for cool weather, the solitude and salt air over Mazatlan or the Big Island.

It's not that we don't like crowds, glitzy resorts or hot weather, it's mainly that we're cheap. Also, we can bring our dogs and this is the part that we like best. The dogs are so dependably exultant when they hit the sand that we catch ourselves grinning just watching them frolic.

Walking the beach feels ancient and grounding.

When the wheel came off

Last week I recounted a miserable winter living with my new bride in a ramshackle summer place on Star Lake and surviving frigid weather through the good graces of sympathetic neighbors who took us in.

Not only did the Cox family put us in a spare bedroom, they shared the dinner table and one day they lent me their '32 Chevrolet to get to Boeing. My rusting '33 Plymouth had failed to start one day. The fuel pump or some other mysterious part had failed. I knew absolutely nothing about cars or how to fix them.
