Back on winning track

A cold and windy day did not stop the Ballard Beavers from heating up at the plate to score 14 runs as they defeated the Franklin Quakers at Rainier Field last Wednesday.

The final 14-8 outcome gave Ballard its second straight KingCo win. They beat the Roosevelt Roughriders two days earlier.

The win left Ballard with a 2-5 league record and 4-7 overall.

The Beavers exploded in the first inning, scoring six runs on the Quakers.

Decatur steps up

Decatur's boys basketball team took another step toward great improvement from the last two seasons, (6-14 and 8-12 records) as the current 2005-06 Gators moved to 17-5 with a South Puget Sound League loser-out playoff win over Enumclaw, 66-60, at Puyallup High School Thursday.

What's been the difference in this season from the previous two is simple.

Domestic dispute occurs outside Trader Joe's

1. Chavis J. Martin was a witness to an unrelated domestic dispute that occurred at the Trader Joe's store on 32073 Pacific Highway South. Upon a computer records check of the witness, officers determined that Martin had a confirmed warrant out of Redmond for Domestic Violence harassment. Federal Way police apprehended Martin and relieved him to the custody of the Redmond Police Department at the Holiday Inn in Renton.

At least we've got wood ducks

I've yet to see it appear in print, but prepare yourself for a new component of the city of Federal Way's tourism campaign: Bird watching.

Please control the temptation to chuckle and allow me to explain.

The city, like many other communities in Western Washington, plans to squeeze its own quart of milk out of the eco-tourism cash cow.

I don't think the tourism board expects to see hordes of Gore-Tex-clad birders pointing their Swarovski's at the starlings gathered at the cement-fortresed wetlands behind the Commons.

Real cost of Iraq war

To the Editor:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the war in Iraq began as a result of the alleged Iraqi connection to the 9/11 attacks. Right? Well, then, I am compelled to list the problems with our commitment to this "cause."

1. The CIA told the White House in advance of the invasion that there was no such connection.

2. The war became an issue about WMD-but that didn't pan out either.
