Seid brings final four experience to BHS

Girls soccer at Ballard High School will take on a new look when it starts practicing in the fall under the leadership of new coach Val Seid.

When former coach Jim Harvey resigned this spring, Seid was busy as an assistant with the boys soccer program.

Seid went to the final four in NCAA men's soccer as a freshman at UCLA (University of California Los Angeles). His next stop was San Jose State, where his teams routinely made the NCAA tournament.

He has been playing soccer since the age of six.

Two messages were found on school property, one on the west exterior wall of the annex building, another on a sidewalk along South 200th Street.

Athletes battle for berths

The bar was set high for state qualification for the athletes at the 3A West Central District meet, with only the top three in each event going on to this past weekend's state action in Pasco.

But area schools still had a good number of athletes break through to meet that standard to reach state.

Marlon Murray won the 200-meter dash in 22.88 seconds for Highline and he also captured second in the 100 in 11.29.

Charles Serisier captured first in the 800 in 1:58.43 and Evergreen's Vincente Cordova won the high jump at 6 feet, 2 inches and also placed third in the

Ethics oversight idea

Regarding the issue of an ethics committee to provide oversight of our elected officials:

Any ethics committee comprised of Burien residents will be partisan, or at least influenced by politics.

Instead, how about an "Ethics Committee Exchange Agreement" with the City Council of a nearby city. Each Council uses the other Council as its Ethics Committee.

Then people who understand Council ethics would be conducting the review, and it is less likely that politics would taint the result.

Lookie-loo_ searches Alki properties

On Beach Drive Wednesday, a resident reported a heavyset prowler walking around his home. At the same time, officers were flagged down by a newspaper delivery person who pointed out a man who had been acting suspiciously and following him. When questioned, the suspect said he was simply out looking at residences for sale. Officers explained that they were skeptical, considering that it was 4:30 in the morning. With his permission, officers searched the man and found a small packet of sexual lubricant and a condom in his pocket. They found more of the same in his car.

Technology building approved

The King County Council has approved a 30-year lease with non-profit Technology Access Foundation to construct a $13 million community learning center in White Center's Lakewood Park.

"This is another step forward for a project that will greatly benefit the White Center neighborhood," said Councilmember Dow Constantine. "Since Technology Access Foundation began its programs in 1997, every participant who has reached the senior year of high school has graduated and been admitted to college.
