Meal Makers remembered for service

Both Manager Kevin Fitz and his staff always showed excellent, quick, caring service with a special assistance for people such as my dad who were handicapped.

I thought that Burien was going to move it to the Town Square but apparently that fell through.

I was a regular customer for over 10 years, and always had a smile waiting for me, friendly wait staff, and yes, my pop waiting for me by the time I came in the door.

Great food, reasonable prices, nice proportions.

I was anxiously awaiting the reopening after the storm/power outage but understand wh

Trees are not the problem

In the aftermath of last month's severe windstorm, many of us are casting a wary eye overhead, to the trees looming above our homes and places of work.

The trees could be seen as potential danger to the major investment we have made in our homes (and cars). Allow me to make an appeal before you take the chainsaw out and eradicate your yard of these "threats."

First, don't blame the trees, blame the lack of trees.

They are calling this a storm that happens only once every 10 to 20 years and perhaps the windstorm of the century.

Neighborhood

Time to limit height of trees

The recent storm has given the Des Moines City Council an opportunity to demonstrate leadership by preserving the safety of its citizenry with an ordinance limiting the height of trees on private property.

We all paid the price for the few irresponsible tree lovers.

The ordinance could be as simple as no tree shall be higher than the roof of the highest building on the property, and certainly no higher than its proximity to any utility lines.

Neighborhood

System neglect was costly

The Highline Water District and other water districts in addition to Southwest Suburban and Midway Sewer Districts should be commended for their buried supply systems.

Like all our neighbors, the buried water, sewer and gas services were not interrupted during the five days we lacked power and telephone service. We burnt everything in sight to keep warm and slept in so many blankets that we know how a hamburger feels.

FIRST, some of the problems faced by residents were due to long-term inexcusable system neglect on the part of PSE management.

Neighborhood

PC celebrations decried

The PC police have run amok! People across the globe, lighten up. Don't be so easily offended and take a step back and a deep breath. The empowering of one or a small minority that impacts the majority must stop.

It was not the vision of our Founding Fathers to have a few run with enormous impact over the majority. The truth is that someone always will be offended; so my message to them is respectfully, Get over it! Move on.

It is the inherent nature of our democracy that not all will be content, someone will unhappy.
