Richard E. Mattson

Dick "retired" from his life journey on May 31, 2007. Dick was a life long Machinist, serving in World War II and Korea with the U.S. Navy; Master Chief Petty Officer (E-9) Mattson retired from the U.S. Coast Guard in 1973.

Wesley Huit

Wesley Huit, age 89, of SeaTac, passed away May 12, 2007. He was born in Oregon and was preceded in death by his father, Fred Huit. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mabel, and two half sisters, Maureen and Colleen, of Oregon.

Mr. Huit served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and was honorably discharged as a Tech-Sergeant. He was an employee of Boeing Airplane Company for 27 years. He also owned and operated his own business in George, Wash., in the mid-sixties, where he was very involved in community affairs.

Pauline Grams

Pauline Marie Grams lost her battle with cancer on May 26, 2007. She was born in Bremerton on July 7, 1921, graduated from Bremerton High School in 1939, and on September 13, 1941, married her high school sweetheart, Larry Grams.

Pauline was involved with Camp Fire Girls of America, P.E.O., faithfully followed her children in their activities and enjoyed camping with family.

After Larry died in 1981 she resided with her daughter in Normandy Park and started a child care in the home. Pauline loved caring for children.

Barbara Mae (Billie)

Brockerman

Barbara Mae (Billie) (Cameron) Brockerman passed away May 30, 2007. Barbara was born October 24, 1931. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and life-long resident of the Waterland community.

Mrs. Brockerman attended Sunnydale Elementary. She was a talented cake decorator who started at the family bakery, B and E Bakery, and continued on with her talents at 5 Corners Albertson's until her retirement.

She loved to garden and spend time with her family. To everyone she was known as "Gram." Everyone was welcome into her home.

You can; however, why would you? Your life and the lives of people around you would benefit from you sharing your thoughts and knowledge; plus, you can receive many benefits too.

Would you like to earn higher grades? Would you like to land your dream job? Would you like to earn a job promotion? Would you like to earn more money? Most folks would answer yes to these questions; however, only a few will do what it takes to realize these things. One way to realize these benefits is to give presentations.

These feral cats need their space

Sunday afternoon, Gisela Schultz, 75, stands outside her West Seattle home with a bag of cat food and jug of water. She starts her daily ritual of leaving food and water for the four feral cats she has fed for almost six years. All will let her pet them, but shy away from strangers. None would make a good housecat.

Tommy, a large Maine Coon, suns himself while Smokey, a long-haired Russian Blue-mix diligently eats his kibble. Peeper, another Maine Coon, delicately laps up the water. Misty, a long-haired silver tabby, orbits Schultz's legs.

Eagles edged out in state final

Both teams packed a lot of punch, but in the end it was Pasco that pinned a 4-3 loss on Federal Way in the state Class 4A boys soccer final.

The two teams were never separated by more than one goal in the Saturday, May 26 action at Harry Lang Stadium in Lakewood.

"They're fast, and they're good," said Federal Way head coach Jason Baumgardt of the Bulldogs from Eastern Washington.

Raiders enjoy high state finish

Nice run.

Top eight in the state, two places away from a trophy, the Thomas Jefferson Raiders lasted a long time at the 4A State Fastpitch Championships May 25-26.

Head coach Chad Fahnlander coached a good team that made very few errors all tournament long, had solid pitching, and timely hitting.

"I'm very proud of them, there is nothing to hang their heads over whatsoever," said Fahnlander.

Yes, Mountain View was a tough draw, it turned out.
