New Cedarhurst School damaged in fire

Highline School District officials say it is too early to tell whether the new Cedarhurst Elementary School will open in September following a stubborn roof fire on Saturday.

A welder's torch may have touched off the blaze at the school that was under construction.

About 100 firefighters fought the blaze.

Hispanic students receive summer help in Highline School District

Although Martha Molina didn't win the title of Miss Hispanic Seafair this year, she knows she is making a difference through her involvement with the non-profit Para Los Ninos in Burien.

A 22-year-old graduate of Highline Community College, Molina placed first-runner-up in last week's Miss Hispanic Seafair competition.

Not winning taught Molina that she doesn't "need a crown or sash to be a leader...."

"It is a good feeling to share with the judges what your true passions are," she said of the community platform presentation-her favorite phase of the competitio

SeaTac annexation suggested

While Burien and Seattle continue the long North Highline annexation process, the SeaTac Planning Commission has recommended its city take a piece of the unincorporated area.

As part of SeaTac's comprehensive plan review, commission members have suggested the city declare the Boulevard Park neighborhood a potential annexation area.

The area targeted for annexation would run from State Route 509 to the Tukwila city limits, and from South 128th Street north to the Seattle city limits.

The citizen commission advises the city on planning issues.

Fiendish fowl and feline fun to watch at Breeders Theater

The latest Breeders Theater show at Burien's E.B. Foote Winery, Out of the Nest, is more than a fledgling.

It opens with a flock of dancing birds and a cat who struggles with its nature. From there we hear a tale of courage, sacrifice and subterfuge, but mostly of why "love is for the birds."

"Out of the Nest" is billed as a new comedy with music. This is not a full-blown musical, but a show with catchy tunes nonetheless.

The text of the play and the lyrics are by T.M. Sell, with music by Nancy Warren.
