Fentonwood homes are still unique

When I got the call from Sally Ganong urging me to attend the annual reunion block party for the Fentonwood community, I grabbed Elsbeth and away we went.

After all, we were once residents in this cluster of dramatically different homes in the Shorewood area. We were so stunned by this group of 19 homes designed by West Seattle's Bob Norsen we bought one instantly. This was in 1962 and to this day they are the most uniquely designed homes I have ever seen.

This clever man was way ahead of his time. He pioneered epoxy resin entries, and full size bathtubs.

Westmark development near Seahurst Park is opposed

I saw your article of Sept. 19 regarding the $10.71 million judgment against the city of Burien. Evidently Burien delayed until 1996 a response to a 1993 revised land- use application from Westmark Development Co. Then in 1998 Westmark believed a "settlement" had been reached but it has since fallen apart.

I find it interesting that the article didn't mention that on that same day, Sept.

Lifestyle debate goes on

In your July 11 issue was a letter from the Rev. Paul J. Beeman, a United Methodist minister in Des Moines.

He made the statement that sex education curriculum must be "scientifically and medically accurate."

I would like to make a "scientifically and medically accurate" observation. No matter how two homosexuals have sex or how many times they have sex they will never produce a child. And two lesbians having sex with each other will not produce a child.

He also stated that he is the father of a homosexual son and a lesbian daughter.

Copter aids repairs to Miller Creek in Normandy Park

Repairs to Southwest Suburban Sewer District's main trunk line along Miller Creek near Sixth Avenue Southwest got a lot of public attention last week with a giant Sikorsky helicopter hovering overhead.

The Sikorsky helicopter transported machinery and materials to otherwise inaccessible repair sites for several days, prompting complaints from a number of Normandy Park residents.

Sewer district engineers determined that repairs were needed after an annual inspection of the 30-inch main sewer line in the Miller Creek basin found exposed parts of the line.

Burien planning community center

Burien is planning a new community center that will be home to a new senior center and feature other programs.

The 55,000 square foot facility, which will be located at Southwest 146th Street and Fourth Avenue South where the existing community center now stands, is only in the preliminary planning stage.

But, if completed, it will house a new pool, gym, jogging track and expanded space for a variety of programs.

"A city of our size should have a facility like this," City Manager Mike Martin told Burien City Council members on Sept. 17.
