Madison Girls' Soccer Team Wins City Championship

The Girls' soccer team from Madison Middle School won the Seattle City Championship by defeating Whitman. The girls progressed to the championship game after winning their first playoff game against Eckstein, with a score of 4-2. In their semi-final game against Washington Middle School, they won a hard fought game that went into overtime and penalty kicks after tying 1-1 in regulation play. They eventually won 3-0 in penalty kicks after Madison goalie Savannah Bogan stopped every shot.

White Center leader dies suddenly

Rick Bragg, a man who helped start some of area's most popular annual community events, died last month just weeks after being diagnosed with stomach cancer.

Bragg, a regular volunteer in the community, played an integral role in planning and organizing the White Center Jubilee Days parade and festival for the last 21 years.

This year, when some of the regular organizers voted to cancel the event, Bragg and Larry Winkler, a member of the White Center Eagles, stepped up to revive the decades-old tradition.

Environmental Science Center expands programs

Efforts by the Environmental Science Center in Burien's Seahurst Park may provide a needed boost to students' understanding of the fundamentals of math and science, according to interim executive director Jan Glick.

The Environmental Science Center is expanding its work at a time when the state is revising mathematics learning standards for students in grades K-12, and when most school districts, especially in south King County, are looking to improve their WASL test scores, Glick noted.

Burien

Former pharmacy owner

guilty of drug possession

November 19-The owner of BC Drugs in Burien, which was suspended last month, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Seattle to unlawful possession of drugs.

Christina Wageman, 33, owned and operated BC Drugs in Burien before the state Board of Pharmacy suspended the pharmacy.

Federal prosecutors said Wageman removed controlled substances from the pharmacy inventory for her own use. They included oxycodone and hydrocodone.

Wageman will be sentenced on March 3.
