Signs on public space

Seems like this is a constant problem. Political candidates' campaign signs are posted on public space.

Both King County and City of Seattle campaign guidelines specifically spell out that campaign signs are not to be posted on public spaces. These signs become a double problem, first when posted and second, when the campaigns never clean up, so we look at these illegal signs until they evaporate.

I am certain that our neighborhood is not unique with signs posted on green medians that are clearly public spaces.

Two developers outline visions for Tukwila Village

Developers Tarragon and Legacy Partners met with the Tukwila City Council Aug. 18 to present their proposals for the Tukwila Village project.

The council's vision for Tukwila Village at South 144th Street and Tukwila International Boulevard is to create a place where residents and others can gather together to enjoy public events. The development would include a new King County Library facility, and Tukwila Police Resource Center.

There will also be residential space for people of varying incomes, along with retail and.

Ideas With Attitude

I kiss better than I cook

By Georgie Bright Kunkel

Do you belong to one of those families who settle for the little motel with no class? Believe me, our family has been there. You drive up and right away notice the disreputable cars parked out front, some missing hubcaps and some with dents never repaired. You know that even if you asked to see the room that is available it will have the same sunken mattress and the same scarred furniture that you have been offered on the road before.

Now fast forward a few years.

Dining Fit

Dangerous waters: Pizza!

By Annette Herrick

Over the last several months I have been dining out with three of my personal training clients. This is a review of our third meal with Jen Ament (the food snob) Liz Woody (the meat and potatoes girl) and Katie Schielke (the meek one). We're on a mission to eat out at all kinds of tempting places, ones you wouldn't even consider healthy without totally blowing it. The goal is not to be perfect, pious, or anorexic.

Children And More

13 going on generous

By Lauri Hennessey

I recall a woman telling me once at party years ago that her 12-year-old was rebelling, starting to date boys too early, and starting to be snappy and surly.

I listened with trepidation, holding my new baby in my arms and wondering how I could avoid this fate. I remember the woman sighed deeply and said (something to the effect), "I don't know what good it will do me to correct anything at this point. All of those parenting experts say that once your kid hits 13, you've done pretty much all you can do anyway.

Let's Talk Going Green

Paper or plastic?

By Barbara Sims

If plastic bags are such so bad, you might be tempted to switch to paper bags. Problem is the paper bags take about the same amount of oil to make as a plastic bag, are six times as bulky and therefore require more transport fuel and they generally fall apart after one use.

Most of them will end up in the landfills, will rot and release greenhouse gases to the atmosphere.

Ahead's a head

I was so thrilled when friends of mine

Said "Come with us the weather's fine

We'll just relax and cruise around

The scenic bays of Puget Sound"

I packed my bags and climbed aboard

Their boat, whose looks I just adored

But once my sneakers hit the deck

All things were not what I'd expect

It seems as though the boating crowd

For some strange reason, aren't allowed

Bring your own bag

The Seattle City Council is proposing a fee of 20 cents on every disposable bag used while shopping.

20 Cents? Oh No! I'll face foreclosure!

It just goes to show some people will kvetch about anything. I think if it were 1 cent, there would still be op-eds protesting.

I got an idea: Bring your own bag!

The whole purpose behind the proposal is to reduce the plastic in our environment, less plastic littering the streets, choking the fish and wildlife, and sitting in landfills. I'm all for that. 20 cents? Make it $20.
