Capers in the West Seattle Junction held a "Steal this Party, Girls Night Out" event on Thursday night, November 20th, 2008 to kick off their holiday season. The event featured cocktails, hors douvres, and tips on how to hold your own holiday party (hence the theme of the event). Approximately 150 people attended and enjoyed the holiday decor. Also part of the decor was a Giving Tree intended to provide gifts for area children. Capers holds a fall event every year. People in attendance left with a "Steal This Party" recipe list and a long list of great party ideas.

"Quantum of Solace," the latest Bond outing and second since the series rebooted with 2006's "Casino Royale," could use a little of that confidence.
The Seattle Department of Transportation decided last night not to enforce Business Access Travel Lanes on the 15th Avenue West corridor until community concerns around public safety and congestion can be resolved.
At a meeting Wednesday evening with city representatives, residents were told that additional work needed to be done on the project and that there would not be any enforcement of the Business Access Travel Lane signage until the city is able to resolve signalling issues, which may address the community's concerns.

The annual holiday tree lighting for the Burien Highline Foodbank will take place Saturday December 6th in Seahurst from 7-9 p.m. More than 500 people attend the event with admission being a can or package of food. The tree stands in Sal Dena's front yard at 14459 24th SW. Several area churches participate with a featured presentation from Highline Christian Church Pastor Tim Knight this year. The Burien-Highline Food bank, located at 18300 4th S. near Manhattan/Normandy Park is suffering along with the slacking economy said Mike Werle, Food Bank director.
In a good economy the Food Bank gets by with up to 65 families a day getting some type of relief. Currently the food bank is getting requests from more than 85 families per day and simply cannot meet the demand.
In short, food banks are short of food. If you are inclined to help there are several Food Banks in our area.
In December of 2006, a severe windstorm hit Seattle, resulting in the death of 15 people and leaving three million without power.
Floods, windstorms, landslides, snow, and power outages are some of the elements of winter that West Seattle has to watch out and prepare for.
"It's incredible how much rain can fall here in such a short amount of time," said Cornell Amaya, emergency public information coordinator for Seattle.
Harsh winter conditions have happened in the past and could happen again.
