Metro planning changes to improve Route 120 speed and reliability

Public invited to April 24 open house

King County Metro Transit is planning changes for its busy Route 120 that connects Burien to downtown Seattle, and would like feedback from bus riders.

With more than 7,000 boardings a day, the Route 120 is one of Metro’s 10 busiest bus routes. Metro has received a state grant to improve the speed and reliability of the route, and has several changes planned that will be rolled out in coordination with the cities of Burien. They include:

• Reduce the number of closely spaced bus stops to help buses move faster and operate on a more reliable schedule;

• Improve features at bus stops, such as installing new shelters and benches;

• Add a northbound bus lane and bike lanes on Delridge Way Southwest;

• Install a “bus bulb” sidewalk extension for faster boarding at 26th Avenue Southwest and Southwest Barton Street; and

• Install transit signal priority at many traffic signals between the Burien Transit Center and the West Seattle Bridge.
The open house will be held:

Tuesday, April 24 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Youngstown Cultural Arts Center
4408 Delridge Way SW, Seattle

Lina Raymond’s April and May art show will highlight her “2012” collection of acrylic on wood paintings at the Ballard Cupcake Royale.

Raymond said she let herself get lost in gestural abstracts to help cope with toxic political times. Reigning in new freedoms, the artist is enjoying painting for her own enjoyment and even indulging in the “De Kooning” bio.

“It really added fuel to this bent,” said Raymond.

Pick your wiener!

A punked-out French bulldog is the mascot for Po Dog, which just opened up their new location in Ballard at 2014 NW Market Street. This restaurant takes ‘hot dog stand’ to a new level, daring weenies to be dangerous and eat a real hot dog already.

The small restaurant has a very industrial feel to it, with track lights and huge bulbs hanging above a bar top. No liquor served yet, but the location is working on getting its liquor license in the near future to have an adjacent bar. Grey walls and brick jutting out in unusual places give an almost street feel to the place.

Warm macaroni and cheese, creamy peanut butter and sliced bananas, fresh BLTA, and spicy Wasabi eggroll. Normal foods find new identities as they join with 100 percent kosher wieners in shockingly tasty combinations. Field roast vegetarian is also available.

Macrina Bakery in Queen Anne provides fresh brioche buns, also in vegan and soon-to-be gluten-free, while Uli’s in Pike Place supplies the option of sausage, bratwurst, or apple chicken sausage.

The most popular dogs at the Ballard location include the messiest-on-the-menu Chicago Dog, the Texas Dog, and the Deep Fried Danger Dog.

Highline tennis remains steady

Highline High School continued its steadiness in a 6-3 Seamount League team tennis victory against visiting Renton at the Pirate courts on Thursday, April 6.

With the win Highline improved its record to 5-3 going into the school district Spring Break.

Senior Jennalee Gould started Highline in the right direction with a controlling 6-1, 6-0, No. 2 girls singles defeat of Thomarie Sadang.

"We just had a tough match against Evergreen and I just really had to keep my mind on the game," said Gould. "There have been a lot of matches in a short time because of makeups so I had to buckle down and just play tennis. Hopefully, I'll go to state this season."

In No. 1 boys doubles, Justin Vu and Bao Vu kept the Pirate momentum going in a 6-1, 6-3, win against Bobby Tat and Ak Sterling.

"I play mostly singles and the second set was tougher because our communication got harder," said Justin Vu.

Renton rallied back beginning with Theresa Vo's 6-2, 1-6, 10-6 (super tie-breaker) No. 1 girls singles victory over Blake Henley.

Henley had not played for a week, so it showed, particularly in the first set.
