SLIDESHOW: Sealth loses a shortened soccer match to Newport 2 - 1

By Greg McCorkle

Chief Sealth hosted a match against the Newport Knights that initially went well for the Seahawks.

Sealth's Mori Tsuchiya scored a goal at the 19:09 in the first half to go up 1-0 and carried that lead into the second half until a miscue by a Sealth defenseman, led to a goal by the Knights tying the match 1-1 at 3:55 into the half.

The Seahawks seemed deflated by the unfortunate turn of events and the Knights took advantage of the Sealth letdown scoring five minutes later to push the score to 2-1.

There was plenty of time for Sealth to mount a comeback but the game was called due to a severe injury to Newport player Dimitri Popoff who suffered a broken arm while defending against a Seahawk attack on Newport’s goal in the twenty first minute of the second half.

Popoff had to be removed off the pitch by ambulance and the truncated match ended in a 2-1 victory for the Newport Knights.

He was in good spirits and waved to the crowd as he was put into the ambulance.

Please join The Herald and Chief Sealth High School in wishing Dimitri Popoff a speedy recovery.

SLIDESHOW: Seahawks knock off Pirates 4-1 at the SWAC

by Greg McCorkle

On a beautiful day for baseball the Chief Sealth Seahawks took control of the Vashon Island Pirates.

In the third inning and with two runners on base, outfielder Max Sarver stepped up and blasted a two run double into centerfield to break a scoreless game.
Sarver would also come home and the Seahawks left the third inning with a 3-0 lead.

Chief Sealth would add another run in the fourth and the game ended with a Seahawk 4-1 victory.

Vashon’s only score came in the 5th when a wild pitch by pitcher Marley Lucas allowed a Pirate base runner to get home.

Lucas did what he’s supposed to, cover the plate.

He received the ball in time to tag the runner but the umpire called safe.
Lucas and the crowd watching argued that the base runner was out but the umpire saw it differently and the run scored.

That would be the only run for Vashon.

The Seahawks play again on Wednesday March 13th when they travel to Ingraham to face the Rams.
