Chemical extinguisher discharge triggers huge response on Delridge Way

19 units responded to a fire call at 6955 Delridge Way S.W. at about 15 minutes to 6pm Monday night Dec. 16 but the call turned out to be the "discharge of a dry chemical extinguisher," said Incident Commander J. Hagen.

As to why there were so many units that responded he said, "We send enough units based on the report that we got of a fire in an apartment building. A complement of units sufficient to take care of the job."

No one was hurt and there was no fire.

That meant of course that Delridge Way was blocked both north and southbound for about 45 minutes but the caution they show is based the call and experience.

A heritage business: B&E Meats and Seafood

By Hannah Danforth

Once through the doors of B&E Meats and Seafood in Burien, you might notice the hum of fluorescent lights, a waft of freshly-smoked salmon, or the large case and it’s hand-painted sign exclaiming that this refrigerator contains the highest quality of grass fed beef. But the most striking first impression is the one made by the staff. Customers are greeted with a genuine sense of appreciation for their patronage.

This butcher shop is a destination.

In 1958, brothers Bob, 19, and Earl Green, 24, opened B&E Meats at Ambaum Boulevard and 149th Street. It quickly became a successful family business. In 1975, the brothers opened their second location in Des Moines where B&E Meats became one of Des Moines' oldest and best known businesses.

The Burien Annex, Home of Burien Actors Theatre, Transform Burien & Other Local None Profits, Devastated by Early Morning Fire

By Matt Wendland

An early morning three-alarm fire on Tuesday, December 10, caused severe damage to the former Burien Community Center, the Burien Annex and according to deputy Myers of the King County Sheriff’s Office, investigators have determined that the fire was intentionally set.

The first report of the fire came into the Fire Department at 6:25 am. The fire was set near or within a porta-potty located at the southeast corner of the building. The flames spread from the base of the building to the attic space above the building’s auditorium. According to Penny Garrison, a longtime Burien resident living in the neighborhood who was out for a walk and reported the fire at 6:38 am, the flames could easily be seen far above the roofline, even from the opposite side of the building. “It seemed like no one had even seen the fire yet...There was no one else around at all” she recounted in an interview just a few hours after she first reported the fire.

Stolen art still out there though the truck it was in is back

A Budget rental truck that was recovered in West Seattle yesterday had been stolen from North Seattle but the seven valuable art pieces that were in it are gone.

Early Thursday morning, Dec. 12, officers arrived at a hotel near North 145th Street and Aurora Avenue North to take a stolen truck report.

Seven paintings had been in the back of the truck, being moved from a gallery in Pioneer Square when the theft occurred while the truck was in the parking lot of the hotel, the complainant reported.

The investigation was handed over to the SPD Auto Theft Unit.

Sunday morning, Dec. 15 officers in West Seattle responded to a suspicious call in the 3400 Block of SW Walnut Street. A caller saw the unoccupied parked truck and thought it might be the truck that had been featured on a televised news report. Officers confirmed it was the truck in question but the artwork was gone.
