Lady Seahawks out run Foster 50-31

By Jeremy Martin

Opposites clashed Friday night at Foster High School when the up tempo style of Chief Sealth met the deliberate, methodical attack of the Lady Bulldogs.

With such differences colliding, one team was bound to eventually dictate the flow the game, and by halftime Sealth held a 13 point lead and enough hard fought momentum to carry it to a 50-31 victory.

Seahawks do-it-all guard O’Shae Walker was a menace on both ends of the court dropping a game high 14 points and nabbing 7 steals on the defensive end.

Her ability to fly down the court made it difficult for Foster to successfully initiate full court pressure on the Seahawks (1-1).

“That’s what she does, she’s one of our sleepers, she’s going to come out this season and make a big difference,” Sealth head coach Katie Jo Maris said.

But Foster (0-1) had a difference maker of its own.

Eunica Serafica, the Bulldogs tallest player at 5’8’’, proved to be a handful both as a ball handler and as a dominating presence under the rim.

Sealth escapes with a victory over scrappy Foster Bulldogs

By Jeremy Martin

Tukwila-trailing by one with 0:45 seconds remaining in Friday night’s boy’s basketball match up between Chief Sealth and Foster, the Seahawk’s Ahmed Mohamed took a pass in the lane, pivoted towards the rim and knocked in the hoop plus the harm.

The junior forward’s free throw would be nullified by a lane violation, the fifth of the game for Sealth, but his bucket would give the Seahawks the lead and that would prove to be all the team would need in squeaking out a 66-62 victory over a scrappy and athletic Bulldogs (0-2) squad.

“We’re pleased with pulling it out during our first game of the year,” Chief Sealth head coach Colin Slingsby said.

Mohamed would finish the game with 16 points and 6 rebounds, Leeandre Dickerson also netted 16 while grabbing 12 boards and Alloney Burris put up 10 points adding 6 rebounds and three assists.

Despite the dramatic ending, the rest of the evening proved to be the poster child for an early season game as both squads struggled with turnovers, fouls and with consistently running its offense.

Rusty Harper, Seafair Pirate President and Southern Gentleman has passed away

We were saddened to hear of the passing of West Seattlelite and Seafair Pirate President Rusty Harper. According to the Seafair website he joined the organization only five years ago after moving here from Mobile, Alabama "Harper had a passion for parades and was captivated by Seafair," and was President of the Pirates for three years.

A video of the memorial service for Rusty Harper is HERE:

Harper's wife Bonnie wrote the following about him:

"Rusty Harper, of West Seattle, will be remembered most recently as Captain Kidd of the Seattle Seafair Pirates this year. He loved the camaraderie and being a part of the “historic tapestry of Seattle”. He got the biggest thrill at the start of every Torchlight Parade. Looking straight down 4th Avenue at the throngs of people waiting for the first cannon blast from the Moby Duck was his favorite moment each year. His Pirate friends became his brothers, and brothers help make a place a home. His motto was “Tempus Fugit”.

King County Sheriff’s Department Reminds Drivers to Be Aware During Winter Commuting and Holiday Shopping

By Matt Wendland

Deputy Myers of the King County Sheriff’s Department sent out a reminder for drivers to be careful and aware during their winter commutes and holiday shopping.

This photo provided by KCS shows what can happen in even the most innocent of mistakes.

The driver of the Subaru overturned in this photo accidentally hit the wrong pedal when pulling into a parking spot in front of Fred Meyer on 1st Avenue in Burien Friday afternoon.

This took the vehicle up the occupied Chrysler mini van in the next parking spot and onto its side. Thankfully both drivers were uninjured though they were, not surprisingly, shaken up by the incident.
