SLIDESHOW: Tyee & MR soccer

Optic yellow shoes ablazing, Adama Kante booted three goals to lift the Tyee boys soccer team to a 3-2 victory over Lindbergh Friday.
"He's stepped up big for us," said Tyee head coach Allen Rider of his senior midfielder, who is joined on the team by his brother, senior forward Hemidou Kante.

Led by Adama Kante's hat trick, the Totems ran their Seamount League record to a stellar 3-0-1 with the win at Highline Memorial Stadium.
Tyee is coming off a playoff season last year, and seems destined for another one in spite of taking heavy losses to graduation.

"We're having our struggles," Rider said. "We lost a lot of guys, but we're just working together and getting out the kinks."

Adama Kante's first score came with 28:30 to play in the first half from up close, and he found the left side of the net from the far right side to make it 2-1 in favor of the Totems with 11:20 to go before intermission.

Kante upped the lead to 3-1 with 31:10 remaining in the second half.
The shot was partially stopped by the Lindbergh goalkeeper, but it continued to roll and went over the goal line even though it didn't reach the actual net.

Thank you letter

To the editor:

This letter is to thank Southwest Suburban Sewer District and Emswiler Construction for prompt repair of a broken sewer pipe, and Worx Plumbing and Drain Pro Plumbing for quickly figuring out that we needed SWSSD.

March 10 we had a clogged sewer pipe. We called David at Worx Plumbing. He found an obstruction far down the line that would not clear, and recommended calling Drain Pro Plumbing because they had equipment that could go farther down the line. They arrived about 5:30 that evening, but could not clear the pipe, and said there appeared to be broken pipes underground. Nick from Drain Pro called SWSSD and talked to the emergency crew who came out that night at 7:30. They spent a couple hours, but hit the same obstruction, and arranged to have a crew out the next morning with more equipment.

The crews from SWSSD arrived at 7:30 the next morning and were at our home until 7:30 that night, and back again on Wednesday until the problem were solved. SWSSD called Emswiler Construction to do the actual repair work. They had pumper trucks, backhoes, dump trucks – and everyone working on the repair was friendly and careful.

Carving driftwood leaves an artistic public mark in Lincoln Park

If you've been for a walk in Lincoln Park over the last few months you may have noticed that one or two pieces of driftwood bear a certain mark of distinction. They've been carved with unique and creative designs.

In a chance encounter the Herald ran into the artists responsible on April 7 as they worked on their latest creation. They are (first names only) Steven, Austin, and Pedro and they approach the work in a kind of zen like calm and as if the rendition of design were a form of meditation.

Steven, whose 45 year wood carving experience, is happy to let you try your hand, though his carry out the task with obvious ease. He has the wood chisels and hammers and he's also the one who first lays out the design on the wood. He uses of all things, Martha Stewart Living water based paint, and a very small amount at that.

After the paint of the design has dried (they need dry days to proceed of course) they come together to chisel out the design. They've previously carved a seal, a salmon and a spiral into logs and were working on a stylized whale as we spoke to them.

Do You Shift? The Shapeshifting Documentary comes to Alki Beach searching for 'shifters'

A local film crew will be on location in West Seattle Saturday April 12, 2014 from 2-5 pm to conduct street interviews on "shape shifting", which may not be what you think.

"Do You Shift?" is a documentary film that is seeking "Shapeshifters" in countries and cultures throughout the world. The documentary will explore many aspects of Shapeshifting in history, mythology and pop culture through interviews with people who experience shapeshifting today.

“What I have found so far in interviewing shapeshifters is that it isn’t just about physical transformation it is about shifting our perspective of what is possible”, said Alder Sherwood, a producer, actor and West Seattle resident, who also produced the local TV pilot The Divine Marigolds.

“Shapeshifting is a mental transformation as well.” Melinda Raebyne, producer, said: “. . . from this documentary I hope we will begin to understand the wisdom of our ancestors that can help us tear down the walls of limitation that we and society has put on us and for us to see that our possibilities are limitless.”
