SLIDESHOW: Lancers in sync

By Gerardo Bolong

Kennedy Catholic High School's goal scoring engine and defensive backbone are now firing up at just the right time.

Combining these elements splendidly, the Seamount League champion Lancers (13-1-5) evaporated Columbia River 3-0 in the Saturday Class 3A West Central/Southwest Washington bi-district boys soccer championship held at Highline Stadium in Burien.

"We had injuries, but in the last four games we've fielded the same line up," said Kennedy head coach Teddy Mitalas. "We were clicking at the end of the season and now we're starting to gel. They're working hard out here and show their gut feelings to play for each other."

The Lancers quickly swarmed into the fray, controlling most of the 80-minute action with the Chieftains from Vancouver demonstrating only slivers of strong offense and deadly defense.

In the ninth minute minute of play the fired up Lancers used a score by Colin Cossette from the right side to take a 1-0 lead.

Mayor Murray nominates Kathleen O’Toole for chief of police

Seattle Mayor Ed Murray today announced Kathleen O’Toole as his nominee for chief of the Seattle Police Department.

“I made a commitment to find the best possible chief of police for Seattle, and that’s exactly what I have found in Kathleen O’Toole,” said Murray. “The Seattle police department deserves the best leadership possible to drive ongoing reform efforts – not for the sake of reform, and not even for the sake of compliance with the federal court, but because all individuals in this city deserve to feel safe and protected in their communities. We can be a national model for urban policing, and Kathleen O’Toole is the right choice to lead us there.”

“I am humbled and excited to have this extraordinary opportunity,” said O’Toole, who, if confirmed, would be Seattle’s first female chief of police. “I look forward to working with Mayor Murray, members of the Seattle Police Department and the community to restore trust and develop a police service second to none.”

Ballard Crime Watch: Strong words from the back of a patrol car and construction guise goosed a metal thief

Intoxicated gentleman lashes out at store staff after asked to leave; threatens to ‘ruin or damage’ police

May 11 -- At the 8700 block of 15th Avenue Northwest officers responded to an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon report. Officers arrived at a store and witnesses pointed out the suspect walking away. Officers apprehended the suspect and asked him to sit on the bumper of the patrol car. The suspect was uncooperative and had the aroma of an ”intoxicant.” Witnesses told officers that the suspect was a known shoplifter and degenerate, and that when he came into the store that day they asked him to leave. He grew angry with the staff and yelled slurs and spat in their direction. The suspect threatened to “beat the crap out of" the staff. He then tried to push a shopping cart at the staff. That’s when the complainants called police. The suspect was arrested, read Miranda Rights and placed in a patrol vehicle. From the back seat the suspect yelled, “ you!” toward officers.

Sexuality is Basic

By Georgie Bright Kunkel

For some reason I have always found humor everywhere. Luckily my late husband had a great sense of humor and that was what interested me in my new fellow. Everywhere that we go my fellow has a new joke up his sleeve and he can tell one with gusto. The last time I went up on the comedy stage I invited my fellow to join me and we made quite a pair cheering up the audience. There is nothing like laughing at oneself and we have age integrated the comedy stage bigtime sharing our aging humor.

Most always I carry onstage my special little handcrafted book called Grandma’s Sex Secrets. Since I have a terrible rote memory I can hide my notes in it and the audience gets quite a laugh when I show this book which I call my serious book about senior sex. I wrote this book after my late husband got the bad news that he would soon face radiation treatments which would interfere with his love life. The next day I sat down and created this book of little comic essays illustrated with line drawings which were meant to celebrate our sex life as long as it might last.
