Two new crosswalks going in near K-5 STEM on Delridge Way SW

Two new crosswalks planned for Delridge Way SW

As part of the Safe Routes to School program, SDOT plans to install two new marked school crosswalks on Delridge Way Southwest near the Louisa Boren Building, located on Delridge, south of Southwest Juneau Street. These crosswalks will serve students attending Arbor Heights and K-5 STEM schools at the Boren building.

One crosswalk will be provided midblock near the front door of the school, connecting the school to the Longfellow Creek Trail. Another crosswalk will be provided at 24th Avenue Southwest connecting the school to Metro bus stops and High Point by way of the Graham Street stairs. Both crosswalks will have some form of push-button activated stop light or warning light.

Both crosswalks are tentatively scheduled to be constructed this year with funding provided through a combination of Safe Routes to School and Neighborhood Park and Street Fund.

Seahawks-Panthers matchup prompts mayoral wager

Seattle Mayor Ed Murray today entered into a friendly wager with Charlotte Mayor Dan Clodfelter in advance of this weekend’s contest between our defending Super Bowl Champion Seahawks and the Panthers.

“We beat them in October and on Saturday it’s not even going to be close,” said Murray. “The Seahawks are virtually unbeatable at home and we know the 12s are going to be insanely loud. Go Hawks!”

When the Seahawks pound the Panthers into submission on Saturday, Mayor Clodfelter will be sending to Seattle a pair of 100 percent recyclable sneakers by ReKixx, salted caramel brownies from Amélie’s French Bakery and Old Mecklenburg Brewery paraphernalia as part of a gift basket of items authentic to Charlotte.

A result other than a Seahawks playoff victory is unthinkable. However, wagers require both parties to put up stakes. Seattle’s iconic record label Sub Pop has pulled together a gift basket, including vinyl LPs by Nirvana, Mudhoney, the Shins and the Postal Service, contemporary compact discs by Shabazz Palaces, Sleater-Kinney, Sarah Silverman and Luluc, and other music and memorabilia.

SLIDESHOW: Garfield rolls over Sealth 96-55 but the Seahawks put up a fight

By Jeremy Martin
Sports Reporter

For most of the day prior to Tuesday night's Chief Sealth boy's basketball game, West Seattle found itself covered in a layer of dense fog. By the time the Seahawks tipped off in the evening, the mist had subsided but taking its place was a suffocating Garfield high squad roaming baseline to baseline at Seatlh Gymnasium.

The Bulldogs' tenacious full court man to man defense, and unceasing physicality forced the Seahawks into a harried tempo, never allowing the hosts to hold momentum, let alone catch a breather during the 96-55 loss.

“They're good, they’re aggressive, we didn't really rise to the occasion overall. We had some okay stretches, but overall not what we're looking for,” Chief Sealth head coach Colin Slingsby said.
Trailing 57-34 at the half, Sealth stormed off the blocks in the third quarter, hoping to match the Bulldog's energy and aggression. The effort accounted for a quick 5-0 run with two steals and a new found dedication to crashing the offensive glass.
