Chain snatching near Alki Boathouse
On May 29, around 5:14 p.m., officers were dispatched to Alki on a report of a street robbery and assault on the 2700 block of 59 Ave. S.W. The victim provided dispatch with a description of the suspect and explained that he believed he was still nearby.

According to the victim he was walking along 59 Ave. S.W. when a group of six young males, all different races, approached him. One of the men in the group, a Hispanic male wearing a Chicago Bulls hat and a belt with an “H” on it, walked up to the victim and demanded he give him his necklace. The victim at that time had on a gold chain with an “Olde English 40 Oz.” emblem on it. When the victim refused the suspect grabbed the emblem and yanked the chain off his neck.

Relationships over distance

By Kyra-lin Hom

There's nothing like moving (even temporarily or just changing work locale) to make you think about relationships, specifically the relationships you have with other people. The last handful of years have been pretty turbulent for me in this regard, as in I've been hopping from place to place quite a bit. And it will probably be another few years before I'm anywhere near to approaching geographic or career stability. So this topic ends up on my mind frequently.

I'm not alone in this. With traveling/moving for work and school becoming ever more common, more and more people are finding themselves in similarly unsettled positions. Not to mention that it's becoming normal for people to switch employers every three years.

No breaks for those who leave kids or pets locked in a hot car this summer

The Burien Police Department took to social media on Saturday to give a wag of the finger to a pet owner whose dog they had to rescue from a hot car. With temperatures around the greater Seattle area reaching 82 degrees the inside of the vehicle in which the pet was locked was a blistering 103 degrees.

Officers were contacted by a concerned shopper about the vehicle which was parked near the Burien Library on 152 S.W. and 4 S.W. By the time officers arrived the overheated pet had been in the car for over two hours. Checking the vehicle quickly the officers found that a door was unlocked, making it unnecessary for them to break a window to extricate the pet.

The dog was taken into custody and turned over to the Burien C.A.R.E.S. organization, the animal control authority for the city. A citation was written and left with the pet owner’s vehicle.

During the summer months the temperatures inside of locked cars increases dramatically from that outside. For example, given the right conditions and lack of shade, if the outside temperature is 78 degrees the inside of a vehicle can reach between 100 to 120 degrees.
