Burien man arrested and charged after attempting to ram officers at Paradiso concert

Having a unique name has its perks and downfalls. For instance, while covering the story of Burien resident Imphamous Kinney, who was arrested and charged with multiple offenses after attempting to run from police during the Paradiso music festival at the Gorge, the temptation to incorporate his name into the headline was great. But all inclinations to do so or to include some form of the phrases “…go down in infamy” or “Impham-y” will, for now, be put aside.

On June 27, the last day of the two day Paradiso music fest at the Gorge Amphitheatre in George, Washington, Grant County Sheriff’s deputies and concert security received reports of a Hummer parked dangerously close to a ledge in the north parking area. The vehicle was reportedly “teetering over an edge” in the campground. Officers on four seater ATVs headed to the location to check what was going on.

Focus group dates added for S.W. Precinct research project

Las week we ran a small profile piece on Jennifer Burbridge (to read click here), a research analyst with Seattle University whose current project has her working with the Seattle Police Department in the S.W. Precinct. As one of five student researchers placed in each of the city’s five precincts Burbridge is tasked with assessing the Micro Community Policing Plan in West Seattle.

In June 2016 her project will end and Burbridge will present an overview of the last year and a half to Chief of Police Kathleen O’Toole (as well as her two professors at Seattle University). A big function of that research will rely on focus groups. Five dates were announced last week for the end of June and now more dates have been added for August as well. If you are able and willing to participate all citizens and residents are welcome to join in on any of the dates listed below.
They are so far:

• Wednesday July 22nd: Alki community (6-7pm) at SW precinct
• Thursday July 23rd: Admiral community (6:30-7:30pm) at SW precinct

Three armed robberies linked to drive by shooting in Ballard

Seattle Police are looking for three male suspects linked to a string of armed robberies in South Seattle and a drive by shooting in Ballard.

The first incident occurred at 10:30 p.m. A man in South Seattle reported three men robbed him of his cell phone at gunpoint.

Later that night three victims reported three suspects brandishing guns approached them and demanded their cell phones. The victims told police a red sedan circled them before the crime was committed.

Then around midnight police were dispatched to Lake Washington Park Drive S. and Lake Washington Boulevard where two suspects robbed a man at gunpoint. They took his cell phone and backpack, and then they sped away in a red Mercedes.

Police later found the man’s belonging in the street a few blocks away. The man’s cell phone was not recovered.

After the third incident police scoured the area for a red Mercedes. Then just before 2:30 a.m. there was a report of a drive by shooting at the 7000 block of 24th Avenue NW.

The victim told police that someone in the backseat of a red Mercedes fired a shot into his home. No one in the house was injured.

Barton Street Pump Station complete; Community celebration set for July 18

Cove Park will also reopen

information from King County

The public is invited to celebrate the completion of King County’s Barton Pump Station project with tours, music, food and fun.

The event is set for Saturday, July 18, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Barton Pump Station, 9005 Fauntleroy Way S.W., Seattle.

People will also get to celebrate the grand reopening of Fauntleroy’s Cove Park, which was temporarily closed for three years during construction on the hard-working pump station, which has been in service since 1958.

Upgrades include new pumps to boost capacity to serve the growing population while protecting Puget Sound and Fauntleroy Creek from overflows of stormwater and sewage during heavy rains. The updated station also features new electrical equipment, emergency backup power, quieter operation and improved odor control. New landscaping is planned but will need to wait for cooler weather so plants can thrive.

King County will offer free public tours of the pump station. Close-toed shoes are required on the tour, and children accompanied by an adult are welcome.
