The public is invited to celebrate the completion of King County’s Barton Pump Station project with tours, music, food and fun.

The event is set for Saturday, July 18, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Barton Pump Station, 9005 Fauntleroy Way S.W., Seattle.

People will also get to celebrate the grand reopening of Fauntleroy’s Cove Park, which was temporarily closed for three years during construction on the hard-working pump station, which has been in service since 1958.

Upgrades include new pumps to boost capacity to serve the growing population while protecting Puget Sound and Fauntleroy Creek from overflows of stormwater and sewage during heavy rains. The updated station also features new electrical equipment, emergency backup power, quieter operation and improved odor control. New landscaping is planned but will need to wait for cooler weather so plants can thrive.

King County will offer free public tours of the pump station. Close-toed shoes are required on the tour, and children accompanied by an adult are welcome.

The Fauntleroy Community Association will also be there to mark the reopening of Cove Park and the return of the beloved crow and canoe sculptures. There will be special guest speakers, refreshments, and original music composed for the occasion by members of the Fauntleroy Community Association.
