Ishikawa raises average

Federal Way High School graduate Travis Ishikawa -- who played four games at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma against the Rainiers recently -- has raised his batting average to .269 (52-for-193) and is batting third for the Sacramento Rivercats of the San Francisco Giants organization.
Ishikawa has 10 home runs and 10 doubles and has racked up 41 RBI with 25 runs scored.

Kela 3-1 for Texas Rangers

Chief Sealth graduate Keone Kela now has a 3-1 record for the Texas Rangers and since coming back from surgery has lowered his earned run average to 6.11. He has thrown 17.2 innings total in 19 games this year and has 25 strikeouts with seven walks.

Barnette drops ERA to 1.93

Thomas Jefferson graduate Tony Barnette has lowered his ERA to 1.93 as another member of the Texas Rangers bullpen.
Barnette has a 6-3 record and has thrown 51.1 innings over 44 games, striking out 37 and walking 13.

Conger now hitting .228

Federal Way native Hank Conger is now hitting .228 (13-for-57) since being sent down to the Durham Bulls of the Tampa Bay Rays organization.

Fall tryouts
Tryouts for high school football get underway Wednesday across the state of Washington and tryouts for all other fall sports start Monday.

Pros

Seahawks
Seattle plays its first home preseason game of the year Thursday, taking on the Minnesota Vikings at 7 p.m. at CenturyLink Field.
The action can be seen live on Channel 13 television.
The Seahawks are coming off a stunning 17-16 win over the Kansas City Chiefs on a Hail Mary pass and a two-point conversion as time ran out Saturday.

Mariners
Seattle is in Anaheim playing the Los Angeles Angels at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, before coming home to Safeco Field for the weekend.
The Mariners play the Milwaukee Brewers -- formerly known as the Seattle Pilots in 1969 -- at 7:10 p.m. Friday, 6:10 p.m. Saturday and 1:10 p.m. Sunday at Safeco Field.
The New York Yankees then come into town, playing 7:10 p.m. games Monday and Tuesday.

WSDOT Traffic Advisory: Des Moines Memorial on-ramp to eastbound SR 518 closed this weekend, Aug. 19-22

BURIEN – Drivers in Burien and SeaTac who use Des Moines Memorial Drive to access eastbound State Route 518 should plan ahead for a full closure of the on-ramp this weekend, Aug. 19-22.

Port of Seattle contractor crews will close the ramp from 8 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday to remove a temporary access road that was used for a Sea-Tac Airport runway construction project. A signed detour will be in place.

Puget Sound area drivers can get real-time traffic information on their phone with the WSDOT traffic app, by tracking the WSDOT traffic Twitter feed, and get advanced information from the Seattle Area Construction page.

No-contact violation
An adult son violated a no-contact order against his father by breaking a screen door at a residence on Normandy Road on Aug. 5.

Child luring
An unknown suspect attempted to lure a child into his vehicle on Aug. 5 at 148th and Ambaum around 8 p.m.

Simple assault
A man assaulted his 14-year-old nephew by punching him in the face and slamming his head against a wall on Aug. 5 at an address on 13th Avenue S.W. and 124th Street. The relationship has been characterized by verbal arguments and antagonism of the victim, physical fights, punching and deadlocking.

Mail theft, forgery
A woman reportedly forged and deposited an Employment Security check belonging to another woman at Sunnydale Apartments. She is suspected of breaking into all apartment mailboxes.

Attempted suicide
A resident of the Princess Anne apartments took an unknown quantity of pills and alcohol in order to kill herself Aug. 5. She was taken to Highline Hospital.

OLYMPIA – Four state agencies and a university are asking residents to check trees in their yards for harmful bugs as part of the national Tree Check Month in August.

August is the peak time of year to find invasive bugs like Asian longhorned beetle, emerald ash borer and other aggressive wood-boring insects.

“Invasive insects can destroy Washington’s forests.” said Justin Bush, executive coordinator of the Washington Invasive Species Council. “In Washington, more than 22 million acres of forests are at risk from invasive insects and disease. We need everyone’s assistance to prevent these damages in Washington State.”

If residents see any invasive insects or signs, they should to take photographs and report the find immediately at www.invasivespecies.wa.gov/report.shtml, where they can get an online reporting form or download the free WA Invasives mobile app.

Highline Public Schools Shares Results of Online Feedback

Families, community, and staff gave input on possible schedule changes and high school improvements using innovative tool

Nearly 1,500 people shared their priorities and ideas with Highline Public Schools about possible schedule changes and high school improvements through a three-step, online conversation.

This spring, staff, families, and community members contributed more than 3,300 thoughts and ideas. Then they had a chance to read others' comments and "like" their favorite ideas by giving them stars.
The results are in and the community is invited to check out the thoughts that received the most stars-- showing us our community's shared ideas and priorities.

Visit our online interactive report to learn about the top priorities that emerged about possible school changes and high school improvements.

"We are pleased that so many people gave us input on school schedule changes and high school improvements. First, I want to thank you for the publicity you gave Wesley Homes in the above referenced article that appeared July 29th.  I appreciate that you included our plans for redevelopment in a factual way and that you shared some of what I told you regarding our communication with residents. 
 
This article has created some anxiety at Wesley Homes and I’d like to provide some additional information for you regarding of Mr. Carmignani’s claims.
 
First, he states that he only heard about the redevelopment in November 2015, after he moved in (his move in date was April 16, 2015).  I’ve attached some of the monthly updates that were provided to residents and those considering residency around the time that the Carmignani’s moved in.  Upon reading the article, his realtor, Kathy Kleber, wrote to me the following:
