Pearl Jam poster display makes comeback in area where more people can enjoy

information from Seatac Airport

Just in time for next month’s induction of Pearl Jam into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Port of Seattle has plugged in its guitar amps, stocked up on flannel shirts and pulled back the curtain on one of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport’s most popular displays. In cooperation with Seattle’s MoPOP (formerly EMP Museum), “PUSH ME, PULL ME: Pearl Jam and the Art of the Screen Printed Poster” is back!

The display, which was inside security checkpoints, had to go into storage late last year to make room for a new airline dining location. Now, the display is back in a pre-security checkpoint location, just behind ticket counters in the middle of the airport.

“We all know the special vibe our region has and travelers love the Northwest sense of place they get when coming through Sea-Tac Airport,” said airport music program manager Tami Kuiken. “The new location lets travelers and non-ticketed airport guests enjoy this special art collection which highlights the connection between the band, artists and fans from around the world.”

Hawks Nest West coming together on Alki; Open at the end of April

Popular SODO restaurant is cloning its formula in West Seattle

Now taking shape on Alki Ave SW in the former location for Alki Huddle is a well known name coming to West Seattle. The Hawks Nest in SODO is a very popular spot for Seahawks fans since the day it opened in 2007.

Manager for both locations, Alex Piano spoke to the West Seattle Herald and said they are aiming at a late April launch

"We are hoping to open up for draft day if all goes well! (April 27th) that would be a soft/grand open! We are still finishing up our seating so I'm not 100% sure of capicity as of now... once we get our booth order in and installed we will be able to see what works with the rest of the seating."

Hawk Nest West is a sports bar after all and will have 9 to 10 screens (4 of the screens will be combined to make a large modulation wall).

"We are still polishing up the menu," Alex explained, "but we will have a good selection of hand pressed burgers, hearty salads, fresh seafood options and of course some gluten free options.

They will employ 6 or 7 servers and 4 bartenders, with some working both locations so you might see some familiar faces.

Julia Durfee of Ola Salon headed to Cambodia to help victims of sex trafficking

The Beyond Project with Justice and Soul Foundation are partners in the effort

By Stephanie Jones

Julia Durfee of Ola Salon and Spa in West Seattle may just be another stylist to some but to her Ola Community and the Justice and Soul Foundation, she is a ray of much needed sunlight in a world that many feel has become dark and dim.

Julia says that she had a pretty rough go as a child and was given many breaks over her teen and early 20's years. It has always left her with a deep desire to give back and be a part of something bigger than her. From a young age she has wanted to work with victims of sex trafficking. Julia looked into organizations that offer services, here in Seattle and abroad, for victims of this awful crime. She found one that spoke to her heart - REST. The training to be a part of REST is intense and conflicted with her schedule; she did not despair though. Se continued to look for other ways to be impactful and offer a deeper meaning.

West Seattle woman robbed in her home; Suspect at large

information from Seattle Police

Robbery detectives are searching for a man who broke into a West Seattle home this morning and robbed a woman as she was watching TV. Police have developed a sketch of the suspect, described as a white, male, 30’s, 5’10”, medium build, short sandy brown hair, clean-shaven, wearing a tan “windbreaker” jacket and jeans.

The victim was watching television at her home in the 4400 block of 47th Avenue Southwest around 8:45 AM when she realized there was an unfamiliar man standing in her room. The man told the woman he wouldn’t hurt her, and said he only wanted cash. The woman pointed the suspect towards her purse beside the bed. The suspect removed the cash and walked out of the home.

Officers searched the area even employing a K-9 unit, but were unable to locate the suspect. The woman described the suspect as white, 5’8″ with a medium build, and sandy blonde hair. Police believe the suspect entered the woman’s home after kicking in the back door.

Robbery detectives are investigating and will provide updates as they become available.
