Summer Fest 2017 starts with (some say) one of the most vibrant evenings of the year - the Junction street closures. Yup, starting at 6pm you'll be strolling the streets soaking in the excitement of West Seattle's best street party.

West Seattle reaches state tourney final

SALMON CREEK--West Seattle jumped into the driver's seat of the age 9-11 state Little League all-star baseball tournament with a 6-5 victory over Kirkland American on Wednesday.

The Westsiders will ride the winner's bracket final victory into the provisional championship at 10 a.m. Saturday in Salmon Creek and must be defeated in back-to-back games that day to miss out on the state title.

They will either have a rematch against Kirkland American or face another team coming back through the loser's bracket.

West Seattle came into the tournament as the District 7 champion.

Greenlife at Summerfest will present a green and engaging menu of events

During the West Seattle Summerfest, there's far more than music, food and booths to peruse. You have a chance to learn, share, and engage in civic action too. At Junction Plaza Park, A group of motivated West Seattle sponsors are presenting a varied menu of offerings on the Greenlife Stage. The highlights will be Diver Laura James Tox-ick presentation at 5pm Friday, a Seattle Mayoral Debate at 2 pm Saturday, the West Seattle Meaningful movie at 8 pm Saturday, Bill Moyers of Backbone Campaign and the co-author of Solutionary Rail at 10 am Saturday and meditation/yoga in the park Sunday 10 am.  The Sponsors are Alki Bike and Board, West Seattle Natural Energy, PCC Natural Markets, Full Circle Farms, Car 2 Go and Waste Management.

Burien Gateway Arch replacement will shut down 152nd July 18

Original arch destroyed in 2016 by a crane truck

The Gateway Arch that greeted visitors to downtown Burien, but that was destroyed by a crane truck in Feb. of 2016 is about to be replaced. 

The City of Burien said on their website that the "Fabrication of the new archway is complete and ready to be installed.

Next Tuesday, July 18 between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm, SW 152nd Street will be closed between 1st Avenue South and 2nd Avenue SW to install the new Gateway Arch.

Please use SW 150th Street or SW 153rd Street as detours on this date.  Local access to businesses in the immediate area will be limited but available. Flaggers will be onsite to guide most guests to businesses.  Visitors/owners/employees should also consider alternate parking for the day or adjust schedule/appointment for the day.
