The Bears took a 2-1 loss to the Northwest Honkers at home Saturday night before falling to the same team on the road Sunday, 10-8.

The Pacific International League losses came on the heels of a 5-4 home loss to the North Sound Emeralds in their season opener Friday.

Highline next visits the Everett Merchants at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday before going to Wenatchee to play the Apple Sox at 6:35 p.m. Thursday.

Highline Bears edged by Emeralds in opener; Next home game is June 9

Wenatchee Apple Sox are next opponent on Thursday

Highline's Bears got off to a good start in their Pacific International League semipro baseball opener Friday, roaring out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning.

But it didn't last as the North Sound Emeralds rallied in the final frames and stole away from Mel Olson Stadium at Steve Cox Memorial Park in White Center with a 5-4 win.

Even though they are called semipro, the Bears and the rest of the league are mostly for college players to hone their skills over the summer and they are not paid.

It also includes older players including former pros trying to make a comeback and some foreign players.

The Bears go on the road for their next three games before hosting the Eneralds again at 7:05 p.m. this coming Friday.

They visit the Northwest Honkers at 1:05 p.m. Sunday before dropping in on the Everett Merchants at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday.

The heart and soul of Husky Deli and the West Seattle Junction

Seven story building will replace Bikram Yoga and Sleepers in Seattle; Husky Deli will move four doors south
It’s been more than three months since the news broke about our plan to build a new building so that we can move Husky Deli four doors south in the West Seattle Junction. Since then, I’ve been truly honored to hear so many positive reactions. It’s also been a good chance to hear the questions people have about the project. I hope this little article will provide some answers and perspective for anyone who is interested.

Loop the Lupe sees 400 turnout for obstacle course and fun run fundraiser

Our Lady of Guadalupe Church held its 2nd annual Loop the Lupe event on June 2 with more than 400 people signed up to take part. It's an obstacle course, fun run (and senior saunter) fundraiser that will provide ongoing support for the athletic programs and social outreach work the church does from the Walmesley Center. Brian Callanan, speaking on behalf of the event said, "Last year we raised $11,000 and hope to do more even though we have added a lot to it. It's a heavy lift but that's out goal."

Loop the ‘Lupe featured a 1K “loop” around Walt Hundley Playfield, where participants raced under, over, and through seven obstacles (two new ones added in 2018), including a mud pit, walls, “Squirtgun Alley,” and more.

Proceeds from Loop the ‘Lupe support the Walmesley Center at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish. The Center has been one of the area’s most utilized facilities for sports and social outreach work since opening in 2012:
