West Seattle High School sees 307 students graduate; 29 honor students among them
West Seattle High School celebrated the graduation of 307 students at the Southwest Athletic Complex on June 21.
The West Seattle High School Wildcat Band provided the music for the event. The Welcome was provided by Lillian Murphy. She was followed by Senior Advisor Sean Riley and the Valediction was delivered by Madalyn Stewart. Principal Brian Vance, closing out his first year in the role certified the class and Acceptance was done by Leslie Harris.
Paul Savino and Jeff Ursino were in charge of diploma presentation as students came to the stage to accept.
Student Alex Maroon offered his Lessons of Life commentary and student Zoser Dunbar performed a song, accompanying himself on guitar.
Sealth graduates 229 in ceremonies on June 21
Chief Sealth International High School celebrated the graduation of 229 seniors on June 21 with ceremonies at the Southwest Athletic Complex. The program included music from the Chief Sealth Concert Band.
The event was introduced by Principal Aida Fraser-Hammer followed by a welcome from the Sacred Waters Canoe Family. The staff speaker was Matt Baudhuin and the student speaker was Gregorio Avalos.
To the delight of the crowd, "Lunch Lady" Doree Fazio-Young who has served in that role at Denny Middle School for decades was given a chance to offer her "Words of Wisdom."
She was followed by student speaker Lauryn Haywood.
Highline Bears drop three on the road

Highline's Bears have had a rough time on the road this week.
The semiprofessional baseball squad dropped a 4-1 decision to the Seattle Studs at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma on Wednesday on the heels of a 4-3 loss to the Northwest Honkers in Fall City on Tuesday.
The Bears took an 8-2 loss to the Redmond Dudes at Hartman Park on Monday.
But Highline comes home to Mel Olson Stadium at Steve Cox Memorial Park in White Center for its next two games.
Highline hosts the Studs at 7:05 p.m. Thursday and Beyond Baseball at the same time Friday.
The Bears were 12-5 winners over Redmond in their last home game Saturday.

UPDATE: Robbery in SeaTac ends in murder of motel desk clerk; Suspect arrested in Ohio
Update June 20

A 26 year old murder suspect was arrested in Dayton, Ohio. The suspect is alleged to have robbed and killed the clerk of America’s Best Value Inn on June 16, 2018. King County Sheriff’s Detectives will be flying to Ohio to continue the investigation. The suspect will eventually be extradited back to WA to face charges.
DNDA presenting the 19th Annual Arts in Nature Festival at Camp Long

The 19th Annual Arts in Nature Festival August 25th & 26th at Camp Long will feature art, nature, and neighborhood. The theme for artist presentation is “Convergence”. Artists and audience members are encouraged to engage in active participation with each other, other art disciplines, and with the natural 68-acre landscape of Camp Long. The event is proudly presented by the Delridge Neighborhoods Development Association.
