Idaho downs Westsiders 16-6; WS plays again Tuesday

By Tim Clinton

SPORTS EDITOR

West Seattle found itself in unfamiliar territory in San Bernardino, Calif. on Sunday.

Idaho came out and rallied for 11 runs in the bottom of the first inning against the Westsiders en route to a 16-6 win.

It was only the second loss in two years for the West Seattle contingent since it was formed for Little League all-star baseball action in 2017.

It won the Washington state tournament as 11 year olds that year before taking the 12 year old title this year and earning the trip to California for the Northwest Regional tournament.

Blake Taft had two hits and two RBI for the Westsiders, while Elijah Palmer had two hits and Parker Ely two RBI.

Mikes Gosztola drew a walk and also struck out three in relief on the mound.

West Seattle plays again at 7 p.m. Tuesday against the loser of Monday's winners bracket game between Alaska and Montana.

Herbold: News on the Delridge Multimodal Corridor

Posted by Lisa Herbold, District 1 Seattle City Councilmember

During the 2018 budget process, the Council adopted a restriction on spendingon the Delridge Multimodal Project.  The proviso required Council approval for any SDOT spending beyond 10% design. I sponsored this spending restriction to begin use of the “stage-gating” process for large capital projects.   Stage-gating requires regular check-ins with the Council on project status, funding, and public engagement before proceeding.

The Delridge Multimodal Corridor includes improvement to Delridge Avenue SW designed to increase transit speed and access, in coordination with King County’s planned transition to convert Bus 120 into the RapidRide H line in 2021.

Summit Atlas Charter School grand opening shows off newly expanded facility

By Patrick Robinson

The Summit Atlas Charter School at the corner of Roxbury Street SW and 35th SW is a very different and yet very familiar place. As a school most of the basics are there, and the aim for any school, quality education is the same you'd find anywhere. But the approach they take is interwoven with a spirit of gratitude, kindness, acceptance and support that sets it apart from other school environments. It's one of eight Summit Public charter schools in Washington.

Officially opened a year ago in a somewhat limited building the school held a grand opening ceremony on Saturday  Aug. 4 to celebrate it's new more extensive expansion and remodel. The facility now offers 24 classrooms, common spaces, a kitchen where meals are served from, 8 "quiet rooms", and an outdoor basket ball court.
