West Seattle Grand Parade is this Saturday July 20
The 84th West Seattle Grand Parade, hosted by the West Seattle Rotary Service Foundation will wend its way from the Admiral District to West Seattle Junction this Saturday July 20. It starts at 11am. The West Seattle Grand Parade celebrates the diverse community and participants of the greater Seattle area. It is a proud member of the Seafair family of events and includes all of the pirates, clowns, marching bands, drill teams, floats, pageantry and excitement that leads up to the Seafair Torchlight Parade the following weekend.

White Center Jubilee Days will celebrate the community July 17-21
White Center Jubilee Days is a Seafair-sanctioned community festival and one of the longest running Seafair events in the Northwest, founded in 1923. The festival takes place at the center of the White Center neighborhood and is attended by thousands of friends, neighbors, and visitors each year. Festival programming includes a street fair, a main stage and beer garden, a car show, a parade, kids center, and more.
Second design review meeting on 7 story junction project is July 18
The second design review for the future home of the Husky Deli is coming up Thursday night at 6:30pm at the West Seattle Senior Center. That project will be a seven story, 74 unit apartment building with 49 parking spaces to be built at 4747 Cailfornia Ave SW.
The project is likely more than three years away from completion. Demolition will begin in about a year with a two year build time.

With Alaskan Way Viaduct demolition wrapping up along Seattle’s central waterfront, demolition contractor Kiewit is turning its attention south to Pioneer Square. Yesterday, crews established a work zone around Yesler Way, across from the Colman Dock ferry terminal (see a map of street closures). They will soon begin demolishing the viaduct and working their way south. Meanwhile, another crew has already begun working on the viaduct around South Dearborn Street.
Gun violence focus of groundbreaking public health summit July 16 & 17

In the wake of decades of Congressional inaction, the King County Board of Health is hosting a groundbreaking two-night summit on the prevention of gun violence. Beginning Tuesday evening, leaders from public health, affected residents, and the health community will join local advocates and policy makers for the most comprehensive gathering of gun violence research, data, and program work in the history of the Pacific Northwest.
Crash on Admiral Way sends a man to the hospital and leads to an investigation

Detectives are investigating after a man was struck by a truck in the 5700 block of Admiral Way Southwest Monday morning.
Witnesses began calling 911 just after 8:45 am to report a man had been struck by a Ford Ranger traveling westbound in the 5700 block of Admiral Way Southwest. When police arrived they found a man with a life-threatening head injury in the westbound lanes of traffic.
Seattle Fire Department Medics transported the victim to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries where he is currently receiving treatment.
A Drug Recognition Expert responded to the scene and interviewed the driver who showed no signs of impairment. Traffic collision detectives are now working to determine what may have contributed to the crash.
