Burien Actors Theatre is taking it to the parks with comedy “The Importance of Being Earnest”

Burien Arts Theater (BAT) is taking it to the streets (well, the parks anyway) with a beautiful adapation by Rachel Rene of the family-friendly comedy The Importance of Being Earnest. Set in 1985 with all of the big hair and Valley Girl charm that goes with that, this show will make you laugh out loud.

Oscar Wilde’s farce follows the story of two men who use fictitious personas to escape the social standards of the Valley Girl era. The show is full of dramatic, romantic proposals that are thwarted by the fearsome Lady Bracknell--and the insistent of the two women the men are infatuated that they can only marry a man if his name is Ernest.

Often touted as a perfect comedy, BAT is bringing The importance of Being Earnest to:

Dear Seattle Public Library

By Jean Godden

Seattle Public Library, I love you. Yes, I know I'm not the only one. Besotted patrons -- estimated at more than half a million -- checked out more than 12 million digital and print items last year. They paid 17 million library visits -- some on line, most in person. They're true believers in one of the most admired and busiest library systems in the entire nation.

Seattle Public (if I may call you that), you've been around for ages. You can trace your roots to 1868, a mere 17 years after the Denny Party landed. That first library had mixed success, but it was saved by a Ladies Library Association that helped launch you as the Seattle Public Library.

In 1891, you opened in the Occidental Building on First Avenue as a city department, designed to receive 10 percent of city licenses and fines. You suffered through crises, tight budgets and moves into ever cheaper digs.

West Seattle Transportation Coalition sends open letter to Councilmember Herbold voicing concerns about Rapid Ride

Lisa Herbold

City Councilmember District 1

Sent by Email: Lisa.Herbold@seattle.gov

Re:  Rapid Ride H Design and Delridge Way SW Multimodal Corridor Project

Dear Councilmember Herbold:

The West Seattle Transportation Coalition (WSTC) works to address transportation and mobility issues for Seattle’s largest constituency – the nearly 100,000 people living on the 10 square miles of the West Seattle Peninsula. As you know from your recent visit with us and your longstanding relationship with our organization, one of WSTC’s top legislative priorities has been following the progress of the set of projects to pave and improve Delridge Way SW, develop a more boulevard design and welcome to the community, and prepare for the implementation of a new Metro Rapid Ride bus line through the corridor.
