St. Lukes Episcopal in Ballard redevelopment will include 280 apartments plus retail

After partnering with Heartland LLC last year to seek a development partner, St. Lukes Episcopal Church is moving ahead with partners Bridge Housing and Security Properties to redevelop their land at 5710 22nd NW. The property consists of four parcels with a total land area of 40,000 square feet and is zoned for a wide range of uses including multifamily residential and neighborhood business. The full development will be located on St. Luke’s property which is approximately 55,000 square feet. Two buildings will be developed under one City of Seattle project number and with the same design and construction team. 

From the St. Lukes site:

The plan is to develop 80 affordable and approximately 200 market rate apartment homes. The proposed development is comprised of two integrated but separate buildings, along with a new church for St. Luke’s.

Flooding closes 2nd and Holden in South Park

SDOT advises travelers to stay off the roads in this area that flooded due to rain and melted snow

Due to flooding, the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) closed S Holden Street at 2nd Avenue in South Park. The road is currently expected to remain closed until approximately 3 p.m. today and will be reopened once crews verify that the area is safe to travel through. SDOT advises people who drive, walk or bike to avoid unnecessary travel in this area. If you must travel, please slow down and avoid driving through flooded roads.

Prosecuting Attorney Dan Satterberg will not seek re-election

King County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Satterberg announced today that he will not seek re-election. In a video announcement (see below) released to the press, Satterberg noted his long standing admiration for his predecessor Norm Maleng and his successes such as being among the first to have a remote domestic violence protection order service, the establishment of a "data dashboard" providing information to the public on the office's performance, the creation of diversion programs to help prevent crime, and also the challenges of high case loads. He expressed his faith that the office would be able to get through the current overload and serve justice more efficiently. 

Satterberg said he intends to serve out his last year, "determined to finish well."

West Seattle Bridge reopening celebration planning starts Jan. 24 with online meeting

With the pending reopening of the West Seattle Bridge likely as the Seattle Department of Transportation has projected as "mid-summer" the potential impacts on West Seattle are many, ranging from real estate prices, to attendance at summerfest, to tourism. The West Seattle Chamber of Commerce and the West Seattle Junction Association are teaming up to host a community brainstorming session to help explore ideas, and recruit committee members on how best to celebrate this momentous event. They shared their public invitation with the media:

Bed Bath & Beyond at Westwood Village is closing

The West Seattle location of Bed Bath and Beyond at Westwood Village is slated to be closed soon the company announced today.

Located at 2600 SW Barton Street, Suite A1  the store has long been an anchor at the shopping mall, the store will be closed by the end of February. It is among the 37 locations out of around 200 the chain will close in the coming weeks.

The plans for closure are not new and were announced in general terms two years ago as part of the company's effort to transform itself into a  more private label and e-commerce retailer.

All stores being closed are currently having liquidation sales. 

    Bed Bath & Beyond has close to 900 stores and is remodeling 450 of them. The company has been struggling to make profits as shoppers shop at other stores such as Target, Ross and other discount driven retailers.

    Gunshots and brick through a window draw police attention on 16th SW

    information from Seattle Police Department

    #2022-00443/Southwest Precinct/First Watch: 

    On 01-06-2022 at 5:40 am, officers responded to the 6500 BLK of 16 Ave SW involving possible shots.

    Officers contacted the victim, and they were told that a female used a brick to break out the victim’s vehicle windows.

    There were two bullet holes near the victim’s stairs, but they were apparently old.

    A neighbor in the area said that she heard two gunshots, but it was possibly glass being damaged from a brick. An area check was conducted, but the suspect wasn’t located.
