Off leash dog park study published; Lincoln Park and West Seattle Stadium considered for expansion

Seattle Parks and Recreation has been studying an expansion of off-leash dog parks in the city and published the results of their study on June, 12. Two sites in West Seattle are under consideration. Lincoln Park and West Seattle Stadium.

SEE THE FULL STUDY HERE

The Lincoln Park site would be approximately 26,000 square feet in size and occupy a space in the north central section of the park adjacent to a maintenance shed, and across from the north ball field.

The West Seattle Stadium site would be in between Totem Pole Park on 35th SW and the West Seattle Golf Course.

Ken's View: A big fish

By Ken Robinson

Managing Editor

I could say it was the day my reputation in the family as a fisherman was established. I was fourteen.

It was  August I think. But in that summer, days blended.

We met Dad’s friend, Jim C. In the grocery store parking lot. His passenger, also fourteen, was a kind of lumpy kid. He looked like he didn’t want to be there.

Dad followed Jim’s Ford station wagon south to cross the Narrows Bridge in Tacoma. The drive was a blur of green trees and some patches of water. It seemed like it was never going to end.

On a map, the route looks like a fish hook, with the point in Seattle, the bend at the Narrows and the shank tracing Highway 101 along the Olympic Peninsula.

The trip took about four hours. The peanut butter sandwich meant for breakfast and lunch was consumed by the time we rolled into the narrow street.

Credo Pizzeria broken into; Money and liquor stolen

Credo Pizzeria in the West Seattle Junction was broken into overnight. Thieves, used a tool to pry open and remove the lock on the front door to gain access. A small amount of cash and some liquor were stolen.

This is not the first time Credo has been burglarized. Two years ago, they came in through the back door and got almost nothing but did a considerable amount of damage.

Owner Jacques Nawar said security measures would be improved.

Whale Trail Summer Gathering - Celebrate give them space

Information from the Whale Trail

Celebrate summer and the passage of a new law to protect the endangered southern resident orcas! The Washington State Legislature recently passed a bill requiring all boaters to stay 1,000-yards away from J, K and L pods, starting in 2025. This milestone legislation will give the whales the space they need to find and catch their prey.

Join us for a special presentation by Dr. Julie Watson (Killer Whale Policy Lead, WDFW) and Captain Alan Myers (WDFW Enforcement). Learn more about background and need for the law, next steps, and how boaters in Puget Sound can help orcas today.

Featured speakers also include orca heroes House Majority Leader Joe Fitzgibbon and researchers Mark and Maya Sears. Mark and Maya will share updates about recent orca encounters in central Puget Sound, including rare encounters with J pod in April!
